How to Find Reputable Reviews of Extended Car Warranties

December 29, 2021 by Pam Maynard

These days, finding reputable reviews of extended car warranties is more difficult than ever. It has only gotten worse since the pandemic. Getting the right extended car warranty from a credible car warranty company is important. This is the only way you can secure your investment.

Entrusting your money to just any warranty company out there is not acceptable. As a responsible consumer, you have the right to know everything about a product or service you intend to purchase. Making sure you sign up with a company that will help you care for your vehicle is a top priority. This will allow you to enjoy your car ownership for years to come.

Here are some valuable points to consider in finding reputable reviews of warranty providers.

Car Warranty

1.     Ask for Genuine References

The quickest way to find reputable review sites for extended warranties is to ask the people closest to you. This company will be getting your hard-earned money. It’s a good idea to follow the recommendations of friends and family. To get more references, you can also ask your colleagues about where they’re getting extended warranties for their cars.

All these recommendations serve as a good starting point for your research.

2.     Refrain from Reading Only One Review

Reading multiple reviews can enlarge your pool of choices. It can also broaden your perspective on each provider. Choosing several review sites can give you at least a few opinions on a specific vehicle service contract company. Reading and comparing these reviews can help you create a shortlist of warranty companies to consider.

3.     Cross-Check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and other Credible Review Sites

The BBB uses several points to reveal the true credibility of a warranty company. Keep in mind that a superior rating from BBB is not an automatic sign that the company is credible or even perfect. Consumers with bad experiences may not have filed their complaints yet. It is always a good idea to use information from the BBB with information from other review sites.

The bureau uses a few methods in checking whether businesses are trustworthy or not. Aside from an accreditation process, the BBB also accepts reviews, complaints, and scam reports from consumers. Customers can also report false or questionable ads, which are duly noted in a business’ record with the bureau.

All this information makes the BBB website a useful resource for finding reputable auto warranty companies.

4.     Get Information from Automotive Sites

You also want to do some research on automotive sites like motor1.com and Kelley Blue Book. These sites often offer valuable information from experts, not just on extended warranties but also on cars in general. Automotive sites may even help you figure out which type of extended warranty is right for you or if the warranty is worth it at all.

Like with information from the BBB, it’s best to use these sites to supplement insights you get from extended warranty reviews. This way, you get a more accurate picture of how a company’s extended warranty policies work.

5. Check if the Site Uses a Closed Loop Technique

Some credible sites are inside warranty companies’ websites. The consumer will have access to this closed-loop review if the consumer has entered the warranty company’s website as a guest. You can then read the reviews of consumers who have completed their transactions with the company. Generally, you can trust these reviews because they’re usually from legitimate customers.

6. Check If The Review Identifies the Reviewer

You can get a credible review from a provider site that verifies its reviewers’ identities. Many reviewers create fake profiles and post false reviews. Then, they agree with their own fake reviews from any of their numerous accounts. The fake reviewer will do this as often as possible. Those who visit the review site will then mistake the reviews and the reviewers as credible. This is an easy indicator that the review site does not verify its reviewers’ identities.

Look for B2C (business-to-consumer) review sites that need two-factor authentication. The review site will need several social media accounts or government IDs to confirm the reviewer’s identity. It is also better to look for a B2B (business-to-business) review site that needs an employer email address before the reviewer can leave feedback. This shows that the review site has confirmed the reviewer’s identity.

7.     Find Review Sites with a Handful of Reviews

You can be more confident in the credibility of a review site if there are only a handful of reviews about each warranty provider. Hundreds of reviews are complicated and time-consuming to process. These reviews are more likely to be fake.

More importantly, a car warranty provider with plenty of positive reviews but no negative reviews is suspicious as well. All those positive reviews may be illegitimate, or the negative reviews may have been deleted.  You don’t want to deal with a company that deals in such shady behavior.

Finding Credible Reviews Can Be Easy

Investing in a credible warranty provider means you should vet this company well. Reading credible extended car warranty reviews can help you establish your decision. The mentioned pointers can help you spot the review sites you need. Additionally, expert-backed reviews from reputable automotive websites can give insights into extended warranty companies you can trust.
