9 Must-See Places To Visit in Cuba

November 18, 2021 by Pam Maynard

Although Cuba and the United States have had a rocky history in the past, the Central American country is no less an amazing traveling destination today. If you are lucky enough to ever have the opportunity to visit, there are countless incredible places and sites.

9 Must-See Places To Visit in Cuba

Cuba is a relatively small country compared to the U.S. or Canada, but at the same time, it is not nearly as little as some people think it is. In fact, it is relatively quite large compared to many other countries. With that said, where should you go when visiting this fascinating place? Check out these nine ideas.

1. Havana

Without a doubt, Havana is a must-see location if you ever spend some time in Cuba. Whether you want to dance salsa, listen to fun and exciting music or sip a delicious Cuba Libre while relaxing on one of the many colorful patios, Havana is the place to do it. Make time for the Malecon, too!

9 Must-See Places To Visit in Cuba

2. Trinidad

For a look at an old town that has not changed much since the 1800s, Trinidad is another must-see city. With vibrant colors that match those of Havana, bright houses and quaint markets, visitors can see many impressive Spanish-colonial buildings.

3. Topes de Collantes National Park

About 25 minutes outside of Trinidad is another destination that you will not want to miss: Topes de Collantes National Park. Perfect for hikers and photographers, the natural reserve park offers spectacular forest and waterfall views that the cities cannot.

4. Baracoa

For a piece of paradise while you are visiting Cuba, look no further than Baracoas. Founded in 1511, this city is definitely the oldest in the country. In addition, you will not find touristy resorts like in Trinidad or Havana. This place is much more peaceful and secluded.

5. Cienfuegos

If you want to catch a glimpse of some more of Europe’s old grandiose architecture, then Cienfuegos is another place you can add to your bucket list. With the nickname of “the Paris of Cuba,” this city combines both French and Cuban influences.

6. Peninsula de Zapata

Calling all bird watchers! Peninsula de Zapata offers visitors breathtaking views of incredible nature. Home to 150 species of birds including bandicoots and parrots, this peninsula provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness some of the most wonderful parts of Cuban nature.

7. Santiago de Cuba

For another coastal city with colonial history, Santiago de Cuba offers travelers numerous options to explore the country’s European past. Spaniards founded the city in the 16th century and people in the country came to know it as “the Second City of Cuba.”

8. Maria la Gorda

If you imagine a peaceful day on the beach, then Maria la Gorda may be just the place. Less touristy than other towns and cities, this small town is located on the far western tip of the country. It is perfect for diving, too. Visitors ranks it as one of the best destinations for Caribbean diving.

9. Jardines del Rey

To escape just north of Cuba’s mainland, another solid destination is the Jadines del Rey archipelago. As a chain of beautiful islands, Jardines del Rey remains largely undeveloped in many areas and offers some of the most stunning beaches.

9 Must-See Places To Visit in Cuba

If you have ever heard about Cuba and wondered, “What is there to see?”, the answer is that there are numerous exciting and wonderful places to explore in this little-understood country. Although you may have plans to visit the beaches of Spain on your next adventure, Cuba can offer just as incredible of an experience… but for much less of the cost.
