My Thoughts
Having enough light seems to always be a struggle for us. Overhead lights are great in general, but what about on a desk for doing school work or reading? Any lamp needs to be sturdy and not break easily. Plus, I don’t want something that gets too hot in case of accidental brushing. And if it does get knocked over? I certainly don’t want it to break. Magic or science?
I’d love to say we’re a family of magicians by showing off our floating light bulb! But in truth, it’s just science and technology in an entertaining format. By using a combination of magnets and induction, the VOLTA not only lights up while it levitates, it also spins over the base! A simple touch of the button can turn the light on or off without impacting the floating action.
But is it safe?
It’s plenty safe for kids or adults. First, it uses a low amount of energy since it’s an LED light bulb. So there’s very little power consumption. Secondly, both the glass of the bulb and the wires inside of it are durable and stronger than their average counterparts. The bulb is made of shatterproof glass so in case it is accidentally knocked over, it won’t break into all those tiny pieces. And lastly, in case there is a power interruption, it will simply land on the base where the impact will be absorbed. And once the power is restored? Simply follow the steps to levitate it again.
Are there instructions?
You bet there are instructions. Although don’t be surprised if some of the kids (or adults) want to give it a go without them first! But just in case, here are the steps to follow in order to use the levitating light bulb by Floately.
- Set up the base on a flat surface, connect the included cable to the base, and plug into your power outlet.
- Hold the bulb in both hands, and lift it about 8-10 inches from the base. Then slowly lower it down until you can feel the resistance, or pushing, against the base.
- Slowly begin to let go once you no longer feel the pushing or dropping motion on the base.
Don’t worry if you don’t get it the first time, it can take some practice. But you’ll soon get a feel for it!
