CBD: Separating Myths from The Truth

August 9, 2021 by Pam Maynard

CBD has been a prominent feature of the media over the last few years, but there’s still a lot of confusion around this product, which has resulted in myths and rumors surrounding CBD.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a naturally occurring compound which comes from the hemp plant – Cannabis sativa L. Hemp. CBD is produced from the leaves and sometimes the stalk of the plant.

CBD: Separating Myths from The Truth

Pure CBD is not actually a foreign substance to our bodies, as we all have an endocannabinoid system, so it can exist alongside the cannabinoids that our bodies produce on their own. Endocannabinoids attach to molecules on the surface of cells called cannabinoid receptors which are part of several bodily processes, from managing our appetite to how we feel pain. In this blog, we’re separating the myths from the truth so you can be confident that you’re knowledgeable about cannabis-based products.

Myth: CBD Is A Schedule 2 Drug

Pure cannabidiol-based products, including synthetic versions of CBD, are not classified as medical cannabis-based products, so they’re not controlled drugs. This is because they contain such small amounts of THC. This means that products such as Vitabiotics CBD are safe to use and are not classified as a drug.

Myth: Hemp Seed Oil And CBD Oil Are The Same Thing

While they both come from the same plant, hemp seed oil and CBD oil aren’t the same product. CBD oil is extracted from the leaves, stalks and flowers of the hemp plant, while hemp seed oil is from the seeds. The latter is nutritionally dense, but it contains barely any CBD. Many companies are taking advantage of this and are marketing hemp seed oil as CBD oil, but it’s important to do your research to make sure you’re getting the real thing.

Myth: CBD Is Just A Marketing Scam

The wellness industry is constantly coming under fire for claims that aren’t backed by science in order to make money, and this has led to many people believing that CBD falls within this category. However, while there are certain products that contain CBD unnecessarily, that doesn’t mean that every CBD product is a marketing scam. There are legitimate applications where CBD is beneficial and can help the user.

Myth: CBD Doesn’t Work

As with any product, different people will experience different results, so a sweeping claim that CBD doesn’t yield any positive results is inaccurate. To experience results, you need to know why you’re taking CBD in the first place. You wouldn’t take painkillers if you’re not in pain, and CBD works in the same way – before you take it, consider if you have symptoms that it can treat.

CBD: Separating Myths from The Truth

Truth: Do Your Research Beforehand

Before you try CBD, it’s essential that you do your due diligence and opt for reputable companies that you can trust. CBD and THC impact how other medicines work, so you should always consult your GP or pharmacist before taking CBD, to ensure there are no contradictions that could cause issues.

Check that the CBD you’re using has been tested carefully and meets pharmaceutical standards, and that the ingredients are pure and high quality. Not all CBD products are created equal, so consumers need to carry out thorough research and seek advice from their GP if they’re unsure about using it for complete safety.
