Autumn trends? I hear you cry. Yes, that is right; the autumn trend watch has already begun before we have even reached spring. Designers have already showcased their autumn and winter collections this February in Paris, Milan, London and New York. It seems that high fashion lives in its own time frame, however, by getting to grips with these trends well in advance informs you Fashionista’s on what to look out for in the coming year.
Bold Coats
To combat the usual darker materials and colours associated with autumn and winter collections, designers such as Erdem and Derek Lam have opted for jewel coloured coats in either pea or trench styles. Stella McCartney also revealed large, long, coloured coats in a classic double-breasted style. This follows on from her colour focus in spring with coloured shopper bags in opaque materials. Other designers such as Rochas combined a thick, coloured, large coat with complementary clothing and accessories in the same hues.
New Lengths
Those with a more bashful fashion style can breathe a sigh of relief as the thigh skimming sports dresses and shorts of spring and summer will make way for the more comfortable midi-skirt. This versatile skirt came in an array of materials and textures at this year’s pre-fall shows. For a modern twist, Celine and Acne opted for punky leather versions teamed with wedge shoes and dark colours. Moschino Cheap and Chic stayed creative as they teamed their over-the-knee patterned skirts with gothic makeup and pearl detailed jumpers. Look on Secretsalons London salons to team this classic, sophisticated look with the right hair and on-trend makeup at your nearest beauty boutique.
Animal Print
Designers such as Jason Wu, Givenchy and Lanvin all put their own personal stamp on this year’s autumn animal print trend. Givenchy unveiled less conventional printed garments in a cow hide esque blotched pattern with matching shoes and understated makeup. Lanvin on the other hand went for an all-out head to toe leopard print look with matching clutch and boots. It is important to keep the cuts clean and tasteful when sporting this look to keep the style elegant and classic rather than trashy. Replicating Thakoon Addition’s grey leopard print coat over an everyday look will keep you looking cool and casual whilst still on trend.
Wearable fabrics
Keep comfortable this autumn and winter with warm, cosy clothing in classic tweed, check and plaid materials. Dolce and Gabbana for example rebelled against bold, digital prints to bring a traditional and wearable everyday autumn collection. Many clothing in this style – which keeps reemerging into fashion over the decades – can be found in charity shops, on the high street or gathering dust in the back of a relative’s wardrobe, waiting for a revival.
