Are you worried about your family being overloaded with screen-time? I know our kids learn, socialize and connect online, we can’t really avoid it right now. We can, however, give our families a fun alternative to on-screen/online games. Blinks are a portable tabletop gaming system using brand new technology for a totally new experience. But, you don’t have to be a gamer to play. Blinks are irresistible- you have to play, fidgeting has never been so fun!

Move38 was founded by MIT Media Lab alum, Jonathan Bobrow, based on his research, studying and simulating natural systems. In an attempt to make the complex systems and emergent properties “graspable,” Bobrow accidentally invented the world’s first smart game piece. Fellow researchers and game designers, Em Lazer-Walker and Celia Pearce, designed the first game for Blinks in a 3 hour hack session, turning this MIT experiment into games people wanted to play at home.
About Blinks:
Blinks is the world’s first smart tabletop game system – built with AI-powered intelligent game pieces that respond to your touch, communicate with each other, and think for themselves. Every piece knows its own game and can learn new games. Blinks are completely modular, so the more Blinks you have, the bigger games and experiences you can create.
Here are a few of the games to play:
- WHAM! is a Party game. A Fast-paced Whack-A-Mole. Play alone or challenge your friends.
- Puzzle101 is a Puzzle game. Enjoy an endless supply of puzzles. Your Rubik’s cube will miss you.
- Mortals is a Real-time Strategy game. Each Blink starts with 60 seconds to live and players take turns stealing life from their opponent’s Blinks. Can you survive?
- Fracture is a game for the whole family. Take turns splitting the board and rearranging the Blinks. Be the first to make a winning map.
My Thoughts:
Blinks will change your opinion of games! There are so many ways to play for so many people, you’ll be amazed. Blinks are easy to play: Pick the game you want to play. Just activate that game, match it up with the other Blinks. They are so smart, all the Blinks will learn the game and you’re ready to play! (Don’t worry, you will find the instructions for each game in the Game Instruction Booklet. There’s even a QR code so you can view the rules on your phone.)
Have a family member that spends a lot of time waiting? My hubby has regular chemotherapy treatments and Blinks have kept his mind occupied and his brain sharp during those long days.
Take them to go!
Blinks are portable. There aren’t any small pieces to lose and they are magnetic so tend to stick around. Take your “Board Game” experience on-the-go. My hubby just puts the roll of Blinks in his jacket pocket for easy access to play his favorite games. Did I mention they don’t require a screen or any wifi connection?
Boredom Buster!
Tired of Netflix? Are the kids bored? Blinks will be your go-to boredom buster this holiday season. Bring them along on family vacations. Some games you can play alone, some you can play with the whole family. I don’t think you ever play same game twice! The more Blinks you have, more games you can play, which equals more fun!
Blinks are even a part of my self care routine. They are a great break from the worries of the world. Zen Flow can be “played” on Blinks. I get mesmerized by swirling colors and patterns, it’s like the Blinks are haring happiness. Spread colors to the next Blink in saves. Or you can get random sparkles in a wave across your Blinks. It’s very relaxing!
