How To Remove Stubborn Carpet Stains

October 19, 2020 by Pam Maynard

Coffee, wine, pet stains, and even blood can be removed from your carpets. Follow these measures to secure your favorite rug.

Who doesn’t want a nice stain-free carpet! We try so hard to make our carpets last a long time and keep them clear and tidy, but it seems like rugs have a thing for stains.

How To Remove Stubborn Carpet Stain Straightway

Coffee spills, blood drops, red wine, ink, or food stains, all these are constants in our lives that tend to leave blemishes on our carpets.

Sometimes, we go crazy seeing the mess and rectify it without proper ingredients and methods, which diffuses the stain and damages the fiber. So, it is mandatory to learn ways to eliminate these stains even before they take place.

Today, we are here to prepare you for how you can eliminate crazy stains from your carpet and make them pristine before you know it.

Eliminating Kool-Aid Staining

Blot off the excess immediately by using a dry towel or cloth. Do not delay, and never try to rub it. This may cause more difficulty in entirely removing the stain.

Take a spray bottle and put ¼ cup of white vinegar with one tablespoon of colorless liquid dishwasher in it. Mix it well and spray it on the stain thoroughly. Then, blot it off using a dry, tidy towel. Keep repeating until the stain has vanished.

Finally, spray with clean water and blot to remove the remaining mixture from the carpet.

Eliminating Coffee Stains

We love to have a cup of coffee first thing after waking up, after a hectic day, even as a remedy to headache and stress. Unfortunately, coffee can leave quite a stubborn stain on our favorite carpet.

After coffee spillage, rinse the carpet by using a spray bottle with lukewarm water in it. Blot off the water using a dry, white towel and repeat.

If the stain hasn’t vanished entirely, mix ¼ tablespoon of mild carpet shampoo with 1 liter of lukewarm water. Use any mild detergent in place of carpet shampoo if it is unavailable.

Dip a sponge or a piece of cloth in the liquid mixture and put it over the stain. You can gently massage it using the back of a spoon. Then blot the dampened area with a fresh towel or cloth and repeat the process until there is no more stain to get off.

Don’t forget to rinse the carpet with fresh water at the end.

Eliminating Blood Stains

To dispel bloodstain, take measures as swiftly as possible, or it may leave an indissoluble mark on your carpet. In this process, using cold water is a must as blood tends to clot with heat, and hot water will make it more stubborn to remove.

Mix two tablespoons full of degreaser dishwashing liquid with cold water and spray until the stained area is drowned thoroughly. Blot off with a fresh paper towel. Repeat if required.

You can also use a mixture of OxiClean and cold water. Wash off with cold water to finish.

Eliminating Ink Stains

Ink stains have always been tough to remove. However, with evolved techniques and tests and quick responses, now it is possible to get rid of them.

Take isopropyl alcohol, as high a percentage as possible, dip a clean towel in it and pat it on the stain to take out the ink.

These stains diffuse or spread more rapidly. So devoid of rubbing or scouring to avoid spreading the ink.

You can use some nail polish remover or hairspray with a high alcohol content to remove ink stains. But a patch test is a must in this case, as these products sometimes ruin the carpet fiber.

In the end, wash with water and vacuum dry to dispel the spare moisture.

Eliminating Pet Staining

Our very own precious pets also give us headaches with their poop or urine smudges with a noxious odor.

When the mess is solid, use gloves and pick up for disposing. Clear out all the debris. Whereas, go for the blotting technique when it is wet. Refrain from scrubbing – this always leads to more significant blunder.

Spray a carpet cleaning solution on the soil and let it drench. Then suck it up with a clean cloth until the stain has vanished. Using the best carpet shampooer for pets will make the work a whole lot easier.

How To Remove Stubborn Carpet Stains

Eliminating Mud

It is not rare for our little munchkins to forget to take their shoes off while entering the house and leave our carpet all filthy and dirty. Well, the grown-ups and the pets might also be responsible occasionally.

For this, let the mud dry first. Then scrape off all the debris. Then blend one tablespoon of dishwasher with warm water to use on the area. Blot over and repeat 2-3 times, and you will find the mud all gone.

Eliminating Other Familiar Stains

Vomit- Gently remove the solid stuff with any blunt object. Put baking soda on top of it and wait for 15 minutes. Vacuum away the baking soda to eliminate the vomit. Blend one tablespoon of white vinegar, one tablespoon of liquid dishwasher in a bottle of water and spray on the area. This will remove the odor.

Nail Polish- Simply dip a cotton pad on a nail polish remover and gently dab it on the carpet.

Oil or Grease- Take a paper towel and lay it on the stain – then iron over a high heat setting. The oil should come out and get stuck on the paper towel.

Glue- Dip a cotton pad or cloth into rubbing alcohol and press it on the glue to dampen it entirely. Once it is done, softly wipe it away.

Carpets are expensive and hard to replace. Therefore, as a precaution, always test it on a small or hidden part of the carpet before applying any product. Pick a corner of the carpet, a small portion under a table or wardrobe for the test. Apply a small amount of the product and halt for a few minutes.

If you find any change in the color, like it goes deeper or lighter, rinse the product with cold water straight away and not carry on with it.

If there is no adverse response, continue with the product.
