Is Your Child Too Young To Start Music Lessons?

February 10, 2013 by Pam Maynard

The human species is unique in the way that it has an inherent ability to appreciate music. Our initiation to the world of rhythms, sounds, and musical tones, begins while we are in our mother’s womb. In that fetal stage, we are introduced to the metric rhythm of our mother’s heartbeat, as well a wide gamut of low frequency music. As a result, humans are born in this world, with some degree of ability to distinguish musical notes.

Yet, learning music, and excelling in it, is a very different proposition than simply appreciating a good song, and enjoying it. If you are considering the prospect of teaching your child to sing, or to play an instrument, you are probably wondering if he is too young to begin training. Read on to find out the ideal age for introducing your children to different kinds of musical endeavors.

1.      Age 3 Is Ideal For A Child To Learn Singing

If you have a child, who has a natural knack for singing, you would find them singing tunes quite early on. This will inform you about their musical inclination. You could then start with formal singing lessons for your child at the age of three. At this age, they enjoy the rhyming pattern of songs.

Of course, the training that they receive at this age will not be very serious. Nevertheless, it would teach them certain musical rules that would register in their tender minds, and allow them to grow in their music skills at a later age. There are singing lessons in stockton ca that are especially customized to match the learning capacity of your young children.

2.      Age 5 Is Great For Starting Piano/Violin Lessons

Piano and violin are two of the most sophisticated musical instruments. Their elegance is derived from the fact that the lesson plans of these instruments are deeply rooted in classical intonations. By mastering piano or violin, your children will also be prepared to play any other key or string instrument, later in their lives.

Research has shown that the age of 5 is perfect for initiating your children to either of these two instruments. At this age, your child’s hands will be mature enough to handle the strings or keys of these instruments. They would also have the adequate concentration that is necessary for sitting through the somewhat lengthy classes for learning these instruments.

3.      Age 10 Is Good For Beginning To Play Wind Instruments

A small child does not have sufficient control over his breathing, or a strong storage capacity in his lungs, which are essential for playing a wind instrument. It is only at the age of 10 that they achieve mature respiratory skills for playing an instrument like a flute, and other wind instruments.

The music lessons in stockton ca can be a great gift for your child. Music provides them with a life-long hobby, and contributes to their vibrant personalities.
