King Camilla Will Inspire Kids To Follow Their Dreams!
As a mom of a soon-to-be kindergartner and a soon-to-be first grader, we do A LOT of reading at our house. Reading with my children has been one of mine and my husband’s favorite things to do since our kids were babies. We have quite the collection of books and I love adding new and inspiring books to our collection. Some of my favorite books are ones that teach children to follow their dreams and instill confidence in them. When I can get my hands on a book with a wonderful message, we read it over and over again! We recently discovered a brand new book called King Camilla and we can’t get enough of it!
King Camilla, the first book in an upcoming series, is an epic tale where Princess Camilla embarks on a quest to obtain the magic scepter. Her dream is to be her father’s successor as King, instead of being a queen. There is just one thing standing in her way… a fire breathing dragon! She encounters a few other small obstacles along the way, but nothing she can’t handle. Princess Camilla fuels a fire in her heart to become the next ruler of her kingdom when tradition stands in her way. She wants to prove to her beloved parents that she is worthy and capable. King Camilla is about following your dreams and never giving up.
About King Camilla
Children’s book author SP Rutledge introduces King Camilla, the first book in an upcoming series. King Camilla features a young princess with a lion’s heart that achieves greatness by being smart, resourceful, and brave, and along the way, she makes everlasting friendships. The book is illustrated by Zay Harding and authored by SP Rutledge.
My Thoughts
When I first read this to my children, they could not believe how brave Princess Camilla was! Traditionally a King is a man, but what the book portrays is that it’s not about gender roles. Princess Camilla shows that even though she is a female, her bravery and independence prove that she too can rule her kingdom. One of my favorite parts of the book is when she makes an unexpected friend on her mission obtaining the magic scepter. Princess Camilla proved to be loyal even though she was betrayed and saved her friend’s life. My kids and I just love how the tale unraveled into such a wonderful tale. My daughter says her favorite part is when Camilla saves the prince from danger, saying that “it’s pretty cool that a girl can fight to save a boy!”

The summer is such an important time to continue your children’s reading and it’s something my kids and I love to do! King Camilla is a story that is sure to inspire any kid! This is a wonderful message to kids that you should never let anyone tell you that you aren’t capable of something! Also, to never be afraid to do the right thing. Your children will love how easy this story is to follow and the illustrations as well! This book will enchant and empower all kids ages 2 to 8.
