Encouraging children to learn about nature goes a long way in determining how our world will look in future generations. Our family has always enjoyed being outside and made it a rule to leave any place we visited better than when we arrived. Even a little action like this teaches our children to take care of things around them. From growing plants to learning how water shapes rocks, there is so much to learn in nature. Blue Dot Kids Press has released a set of books that teach children how to get excited about nature.
About Blue Dot Kids Press
Across languages and across borders, stories are magic. Storytelling connects us to each other and to who we are. Our innate appreciation for story is part of what makes us human. In the hands of a child, a book is a portal to infinite possibility. When a beautifully crafted story engages a child’s natural curiosity, their world expands, as does their sense of self. In this way, a colorful stack of books carried home from the library or bookstore creates ripples of connection and inquiry.
These are the types of books that Blue Dot Kids Press creates. We publish stories that connect us to each other—and to the home we call Earth. With irrepressible hopefulness and courage, we aspire to empower the next generation of global citizens with empathy, resilience, creativity, and the shared value of nature and its stewardship.
Some of our favorite Blue Dot Kids Press books:
Under My Tree
In this modern spin of Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, celebrate the friendship between a curious child and her favorite tree.
Little Susanne discovers a special tree during her visit to her grandmother’s house. Every visit, Susanne discovers something new about the tree. To her it is an amazing place to hang out and investigate. What a great way to introduce children to trees and their place in nature. Within the story line, are basic facts about trees as well as several activities that encourage children to touch, smell, and observe the world that is all around them.

Leafy Critters
In this book, the author encourages families to get outside and enjoy nature. Packed with art and crafts that children of all ages will enjoy creating. Budding artists will create beautiful designs using flower pedals, seeds, and leaves. Some are designs include patterns for pigs, turtles, and snakes.
Created by Yvonne Lacet, who is an international artist and a photographer who works on projects in which urban environments, the landscape, and nature play an important role. Her images are almost life like and mind blowing when you realize they were created from things in your yard!
You can purchase Leafy Critters directly from Amazon.
Who Will It Be: How Evolution Connects Us All
This book introduces Darwin’s theory of evolution. Exploring the connections between humans and all life on Earth. The author takes you on a journey watching the development of a baby. At various development stages, you are asked to guess what it is. Children will guess some surprising things. At one point the baby had webbed feet, so of course the children guessed it was a duck. One of mine even guessed a Sea Horse at one point. The author teaches that all living things are connected and have evolved over time. There is an in depth appendix that includes information about evolutionary science at the end of the book.

Ivy Bird
In this book, a little girl named Ivy spends her day deep in imaginative play as she “takes flight” and becomes a bird. Depending on the bird, she may be tweeting or hooting at other birds. Packed with beautiful illustrations, children are invited to use their imagination to “take flight” and participate in the life of the bird. Basically, be the bird for a while. Also included in the book is a neat listing of the birds included in the story. These are fun facts about each type of bird some of them we didn’t even notice the first reading of the book. We had to go look for them! This is a cute book for little ones that encourages their learning through imagination and play.
Purchase Ivy Bird directly from Amazon. And then make sure to download the Teacher’s Guide, Coloring Page, and Activity Kit Page to use with your children.
My Favorite Memories
In this book, a little girl is facing a major change in her life. She is having to move. And not just to a new home, she is moving to a new country. Talk about a major change in someone’s life, even for an adult. As preparations are being made, she goes through all the things that she wants to bring with her to the new home. And as we all know, this isn’t something that happens. So, she goes through her long list of the things that make her happy like an aquarium, a pear tree, her best friend, and even the ocean.
And with most moves, she learns she can not take everything that she loves with her to the new home. At least not physically, but maybe they can still be with her in other ways. Through the story line, learning how being resilient in complicated life events is introduced. Memories are something that we can take with us anywhere we go. We can pull them out and enjoy them any time.
My Favorite Memories will be released this August and can be pre-ordered on Amazon today.
