Extra Measures: 4 Ways to Keep Your Family Safe in Emergencies

May 6, 2020 by Pam Maynard

In this highly unpredictable world, we try to find ways to be as prepared as possible for any emergency. We are tasked to think about dangerous life-threatening scenarios in order to prevent, prepare, and respond to an emergency should one arise. Today, we will talk about 4 ways to keep your family safe in emergencies.

Extra Measures: 4 Ways to Keep Your Family Safe in Emergencies

Emergency Action Plan

One of the most effective ways to keep your family safe during an emergency is by creating an emergency action plan. An emergency action plan should include evacuation procedures, escape routes, floor plans, emergency meeting spots, and guidance on how to contact the authorities for help.

Personal Protection

Having personal protection like a firearm is another way to protect your family during an emergency. If it is your first time purchasing a firearm, then you may be wondering what type of firearm you should buy. Consider 9mm handguns online. Why a 9mm? It is one of the most popular and preferred type of firearm by members of the armed forces. A 9mm handgun is suitable for both beginners and seasoned handgun owners alike. If you find yourself wanting to browse the different types of 9mm handguns, then consider shopping for 9mm handguns online.

Martial Arts

In line with personal protection, another way to keep your family safe in an emergency is by learning martial arts or self-defense techniques. Knowing how to defend yourself and your family during a life-threatening situation through martial arts is a valuable asset to have.

Emergency Kit

4 Ways to Keep Your Family Safe in Emergencies

When someone talks about an emergency kit, you might automatically think about a first-aid kit. While a first-aid kit is important to have during an emergency, it is different from an emergency kit. A basic emergency kit should include at least a 3 to 4-day supply of non-perishable food and water. It should also include batteries, flashlights, a manual can opener, radio, supplies for personal hygiene, whistle, masks, gloves, tape, prescription medication, non-prescription medication, and of course a first-aid kit. If you have pets, then pet supplies should be included as part of your emergency kit.

These are only to mention 4 ways to keep your family safe in emergencies. To ensure their effectiveness, routinely update your emergency action plan and learn new martial arts skills. Also, maintain your firearm by cleaning it periodically. Check your emergency kit at least every 6 months to replace anything that may have expired or can no longer be used.
