My Thoughts
Getting a good nights sleep can make all the difference in the next day. If you don’t sleep well, you may be tired, cranky, anxious and even emotional. This is the same for our children, too. Not only is good, quality sleep important for their physical health, but it also plays a big part in their mental and emotional well being too! There are a few things we, as parents, can do to set them on the right path for a restful night of sleep.
I found establishing a bedtime routine was critical in my house. Even starting at a young age, before they could truly understand what was going on, their little bodies seemed to understand: Oh, when we eat, get a bath, and Mom snuggles us, sleep time is coming. Now, as they get older, it was easier for them to understand the steps and order of the routine so there was no sudden announcement that bedtime was upon them!
The routine doesn’t have to be complicated either. It can be as easy as dinner, bath time, a story or quiet play time, and then bed. Now getting my children to stay in their bed was another matter. But one of the things that helped was having their bed set up the way they liked it. Certain pillows, stuffed animals, having the bed up against the wall, and other small details like those. And being tucked in with a favorite blanket was always important! And this is where having a weighted blanket can be a game changer.
Blankets give you a hug
Weighted blankets usually have an internal layer filled with beads that are sewn into small compartments throughout the blanket for even distribution. All I can tell you is it does seem to help when kids are nervous, anxious, or worried about going to sleep, especially in their own room.
