Finding A Role Which Embraces Your Love Of The Written Word

February 10, 2020 by Diane

There are few things better than curling up and spending a few hours with your mind inside a good book. As one of the oldest forms of information storage and entertainment, the written word has been used by people for thousands of years, and it has come a very long way in the time that people have had to perfect it. Of course, though, there are always new ideas and stories to try, and this makes it hard not to love this part of life. For those who want to make reading, writing, or spending time around books their whole life, though, work will need to be done to make sure that you have the right job to bring it all together.

Book Shops

Book shops have been around for a very long time, and they remain popular even as the online world threatens to take away their business. You will almost certainly have a book shop near you, and places like this present an excellent opportunity to get a job which will surround you with books without having to take on specialist training or qualifications to get started. Some of these roles will be commission based, and this will mean that you have to work to sell the books you have on offer, though this should be easy for anyone who loves reading.

Libraries

Libraries provide excellent community spaces which people can use to learn and improve their skills for free, but it takes a lot more work to keep a place like this going than you might expect. Schools like the University of Southern California can teach you how to manage a place like this, teaching you everything you need to know about the various systems which are used for this job. It can be surprising to find just how complex this field is, and a lot of people end up biting off more than they can chew when they first get into it. Of course, though, this shouldn’t be a problem for anyone who loves to spend time around books.

Writing

When you’ve spent your life reading stories and enjoying other people’s work, it can often make sense to look at writing something for yourself. It can take a long time to build this skill, though those who have been exposed to a lot of quality pieces will have a head start, and will find it much easier to sink into writing things they like. The idea of writing for yourself can be daunting, and a lot of people don’t know where to start. There are a lot of sites around the web which can give you writing ideas and prompts, and this is a good way to go, giving you the chance to put pen to paper and get on with crafting a masterpiece.

With all of this in mind, you should be feeling ready to take on the challenge of finding a role which enables you to embrace your love of the written word. A lot of people struggle with work like this, finding it hard to know what needs to be done when they want to take on a job which feeds into their love of reading and writing.
