As their name suggests, little black ants are tiny creatures. They measure only around 1/16 of an inch, and they have shiny black or dark brown bodies. You might not mind if you see them in nature. Besides, they are useful when they aerate the soil. These ants do not pose a large threat to humans. Their small-sized stingers cannot seriously hurt you. However, they can be troublesome if they infest your home in large numbers. It would be an unpleasant sight if you saw them building their colonies in your house and nourishing themselves with your food. No worries! Here are a few ways to tackle such a situation.

Clean Your Home Regularly
Of course it feels great to live in a neat and clean space, but there are other advantages to keeping your home tidy. When you clean your home regularly, you keep many insect intruders away, including little black ants. Do not let food scraps litter your home, because those can be a great source of food for ants. Keep food properly packed in containers. Garbage also attracts these creatures often because they can find some food there as well. Take special care to not let the area near your garbage bin get untidy.
Monitor Damp Areas and Seal Cracks
Moisture provides favorable conditions for ants to survive. You should monitor the damp and dark areas of your home to check if ants live there. Also, seal any cracks in your home which could be entry points for ants. They may build their nests in these cracks and crevices. Check if there are any cracks on your home’s walls or around your window sills and seal them with caulk.
Use Vinegar
When you locate the ants’ trails and their nests, you could pour vinegar around those areas. Vinegar contains chemicals which can deter ants. However, this method might be a little tedious. You would need to repeat this process until all the ants come in direct contact with the chemical.
Spray Insecticides
There are lots of over-the-counter insecticides available, and you could use these insecticides to get some relief from your home’s ant infestation. You’d just need to directly spray the insecticides on the ants whenever you see them. The spray would kill the ants that are directly exposed to it. You would always have to be ready with the spray to target these ants whenever you locate them.
Set Bait
Setting bait might also counter your home’s ant infestation. You could put the bait on the ants’ trails. The ants which move on the trails would consume a portion of the bait and carry the remaining bait to their nests for the other ants. Eventually, this could get rid of the whole ant colony in your home.
