Valentines day is fast approaching once again and whilst you might have got the flowers, the restaurant and the card sorted, have you thought about what you’re going to wear? It might not seem to be a crucial part of the evening – particularly if you’ve been dating someone for a while – but what you choose to wear can make a huge difference to the way that you feel on the night itself, as well as the impression that you make. Here are a few tips on how to look your very best this Valentines Day and night!
Don’t try too hard. Whilst you’re not going to impress anyone if you turn up in an old pair of jeans or a onesie, there’s no need to go over the top when it comes to Valentines Day. An entire brand new outfit can seem like a good idea at the time but is usually a mistake as you are putting a lot of pressure on the evening if you’ve spent a fortune on the outfit! Wear something that you know looks good, that won’t restrict your movements, and that you’re not going to have any accidents in (i.e. avoid wearing ten inch heels for the first time).
But make an effort. Whether you like it or not, what you wear will make an impression on your date. If you’ve been in a relationship for a while and you dress down too much then you could be facing accusations of not making an effort; if this is a new date and you can’t even be bothered to iron a shirt then don’t expect your companion to be particularly impressed!
Pay attention to the personal hygiene. This might seem obvious but there’s really nothing more off-putting than trying to listen to someone speaking but being hit by a wave of body odour each time they raise their drink to their mouth. The main issues most people face hygiene-wise are bad breath, BO and smelly clothes that either haven’t been washed or haven’t been dried properly.
Avoid crazy fashion choices. If you’re planning on wearing something that is going to make everyone in the room look at you all night then you might want to think again. You will be putting rather a lot of pressure on your date if everyone is staring at you all night and some people don’t like being overshadowed by their other halves! You might also find yourself on the receiving end of some rather nasty glances from others in the room annoyed at you stealing all the limelight…
Try to tailor your choices to your destination. If you’re going all out for Valentines Day and booking somewhere rather special then be sure to check whether there is a dress code. Some restaurants won’t allow either men or women to wear jeans and may require men to wear a jacket and/or tie. The last thing you want on such a special night is to end up being thrown out of the restaurant and ending up in a fast food joint.
If you’re planning a romantic valentines day or night this year then these tips will help you make sure that you get your outfit spot out. Whatever you end up settling on, make sure you wear it with a big smile – it’s the perfect accessory for any outfit!
