The Benefits of Sending Your Kids to Private Schools

July 18, 2019 by Pam Maynard

There’s a lot to be said about private schools education. That it is expensive, the exclusivity might be a tad too much, and that the kids might have a hard time coping with the academic demands.

Most of what we know of private schools are stereotypes and caricatures perpetuated by TV and film. But while private schools are pricey and that there is a rigorous admission process, the students here are given ample space and time to learn at their own pace.

More and more parents are looking into enrolling their kids in private schools, and here are some of the reasons why.

The Benefits of Sending Your Kids to Private Schools

There are so many options to choose from

Private schools offer different learning environments, from international private schools in Singapore, to boarding schools, and alternative schools. Depending on your child’s learning curve, strengths, and areas of improvement, each one can provide the proper means of developing their full potential.

Increased individual attention

An advantage of private schools are the small class sizes. This gives educators the opportunity to give each student ample attention so they know how to adjust their teaching methods. So for instance, there are kids who might need extra time understanding a lesson, the teacher will have no problems focusing on their needs.

Additionally, there will be less chances of disciplinary problems. Not only is it easy to impose the schools rules on a small population, but private schools are known for enforcing codes of conduct. In this way, your kids will know that certain behaviours have rewards and consequences attached to them.

Parent involvement

Private schools want to make sure that the parents have a stake in their child’s education. This goes beyond the grades that they are taking home, but in all the activities their kids are involved in. Called a three-way partnership, private schools ensure that there is clear communication between the school, the parents, and the students. By fostering this relationship, not only is there transparency, but each one has a role in the education process.

Of course, this is a no-pressure type of partnership and your level of commitment can vary. For instance, you can choose to just attend the meetings, or share your talents, especially when there are events. Or you can also just observe and step in when you think you can help finish a task.

Academic possibilities

Private schools don’t teach to appease test scores, that’s one of its advantages. Public or state schools need to reach a certain percentage in test scores to get funding, but private schools don’t have that kind of pressure. This gives them the freedom to be innovative and creative in the way they teach, and in doing so, leave room for kids to learn at their own pace.

Of course, private schools still need to meet minimum grade requirements set by the department of education, but accountability is only for their clients, which are the parents.

There is more focus in the learning process in private schools. So consider these benefits while you’re school hunting and choose which one suits your child more.
