Transitioning Seasons
Every season, you likely find that you have a few repairs that you shouldn’t put off. You might have a leaking roof from some winter storm damage, or the paint on the side of your house might have started to fade.
There are a lot of ways that weather can damage your home, but there are also plenty of techniques to notice problems early and tips for fixing them before the projects begin to pile up, including these four.
Broken Flashing, Gutters, and Shingles
It’s common for gutters, shingles, and other parts of the house near the roof to get damaged during a winter storm. Branches fall and snow can weigh down many parts of the house.
There might be some areas that you need to fix immediately, but there might be some things, such as hanging gutters, that you don’t fix until the spring. As soon as the weather is below freezing, walk around the house and take inventory of all of the damages that your house has incurred over the winter.
Faded Paint and Siding
The UV rays from the sun can fade many things, including the paint on your house, especially if your siding has been painted a dark color. If you’ve noticed that parts of your house’s exterior are beginning to look dull or faded, there are a couple of things that you could do.
Replacing severely faded siding is one option, or you can have an exterior painting services company paint some types of siding and trim.
Groaning Pipes
Groaning pipes during the winter is a sign that you might need to have them checked, especially if they’re older. When the weather is cold, water inside of your pipes can expand and put extra strain on them.
You might need to add insulation around the pipes, or a plumber might need to replace them before they break and flood your home. You need to take care of flooding and water damage as soon as possible.
Broken Tree Limbs
Heavy storms occur during all seasons, and they can knock down large branches. Stay on top of picking up smaller branches that fall, and make sure that you schedule a time to assess which branches and trees are likely to fall down in the next big storm so that you cut them down before they fall on your house.
You need to maintain your house throughout the year so that repairs are more manageable. One of the best things you can do is make an inventory of items around the house that you want to check at certain times during the year.
