Most of the time, when you see me, I have a coffee mug. Either in my hand, on my desk, or in my cup holder if I’m in the car. We have a dual coffee pot unit at home that can brew a pot of coffee as well as a single cup using the coffee pods. It is great having the option to do both! I also have a French Press up in the cabinet that I break out when trying a new coffee, or just want to entertain with it. But I’ve been seeing and hearing all these things about the pour-over cup of coffee! I had to learn more for myself so it’s time to enjoy a new brew with Melitta.

My Thoughts:
So I already told you that I love coffee. I make coffee at home, I make it to go, I get it at coffee shops and even a few gas stations! But when I started hearing more about the pour-over coffee trend, I wanted to learn more before I added yet another way to make coffee to my list.
Pour-over coffee is pouring hot water (just a few degrees shy of boiling) over finely ground coffee in a filter lined brewing cone. As the water runs through the coffee, it “brews” and drips into the mug or carafe below. It allows you to have coffee ready to drink in seconds! The longest part of the process is heating the water. I’d suggest either having an electric tea kettle so you can have hot water pretty quick or heat a kettle on the stove.
The Melitta company has been around for over a century now, always looking for a better way to brew coffee. They have a number of products for the coffee novice or the master drinker. I love the vintage style Heritage Series Pour-Over Coffeemaker; the set I received is in pastel yellow and is so cute! They come in several colors, but the yellow goes very well in my kitchen without being overtly feminine. And since it is a set, I get the pour-over coffeemaker as well as a serving carafe that matches! There’s also a lid for the carafe to help avoid messes when you’re pouring. It does require the use of #4 Melitta coffee filters which they sell as well.
Single Cup Setup
If you don’t need the whole set, you should look at the Signature Series 1-Cup Pour-Over Coffeemaker. These are units you set right over your mug or cup and brew straight into it, instead of into a carafe that you then pour. It’s available in several colors and finishes, even in metallic! It makes about 1 cup of coffee at a time, so you only brew what you need which means the rest of it doesn’t cool off while it sits.
My Favorite Coffee Flavors
Even if you already have the pieces you need to make your own delicious pour-over coffee, you can always use more coffee, right? Two of the best flavors I’ve tried so far from Melitta are the Cafe De Europa Hazelnut Creme Brulee and the Cafe De Europa Vienna Roast. The Hazelnut Creme Brulee tastes warm and delicious, almost like a dessert coffee. It’s a great way to get that “sweet” treat taste in the afternoon without actually having sugar. Honestly, it’s perfect any time of the day or night. And the Vienna Roast is a dark roasted coffee. It’s not bitter like you might expect. I prefer it first thing in the morning personally. Both of these ground coffee roasts are “extra fine grind” so they are perfect for a pour-over coffeemaker.
