Set Sail to the Wonderful World of Imagination

December 17, 2012 by Pam Maynard

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Carole Roman for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I don’t know about you, but my son has a fear about cleaning his room, just like Alexander.  I think he feels he might throw away something important by accident.  My son collects things that don’t warrant a collection- like candy wrappers, gum wrappers, 25 of the same bottle cap, you get the picture.

Captain No Beard – An Imaginary Tale of a Pirate’s Life, a wonderful  story of the powers of imagination, is a must read for children ages 3 to 8.  Written by Carole P. Roman, this wonderfully written book not only is fun, but teaches little one important things about responsibility.

Alexander has the task of cleaning his room and has commandeered his friend and loyal stuffed animals to help him.  Alexander doesn’t do the normal “I don’t want to clean my room” routine.  Instead, he uses his imagination along with his friends and has a grand adventure on the high seas.  The group of seamen make Alexander’s bed into a pirate ship!  At first, Alexander, aka Captain No Beard, has trouble taking charge of the situation.  Everyone is looking to him for support and answers.  They don’t even know the right pirate lingo!  Captain No Beard has everything under control in no time and has his mates swabbing the deck and battening down the hatches.  The crew faces some storms and ominous powers on their journey.  But, in the end, even pirates have to clean their room.

My son is a lot like Captain No Beard.  Not only does he dislike cleaning his room, but he has a very creative imagination.  They both love stuffed animals and both have trouble being in charge.  But when faced with a challenge, my son won’t back down, just as Captain No Beard stepped up to his challenge.

This book will make a wonderful gift for your little one this Christmas.  It’s a fun, action-packed way to get kids to understand responsibility but at the same time learn that things are only limited by our imagination.
