I love having whimsical items in my flower garden and around the yard. From fun bird feeders to unique garden items. All it takes it one look at them for a smile to spread on my face. So, when the kids are yelling that they are bored, why not create fun items to hang on a low hanging branch or sit beside your favorite shrub or flower?! This Whimsical Woodland Creature Terrarium is super easy to make and fun for kids and adults! Best of all, it is a Dollar Store DIY so it is very inexpensive!
I have a special interest in owls so for our Whimsical Woodland Creature Terrarium we did an owl terrarium. Mr. Owl hangs out in the branches of a nearby tree always there to make me smile when I see him! But, why stop there? You can have your own little forest community! 🙂
While you are at it, why not create a few fun planters and flower pots? Take a look at these fun Creative DIY Flower Pots and Planters for inspiration. Go ahead and make your garden and outdoor a magical space!
Supplies Needed
plastic mason jar
small woodland creature
foam moss rock
sand or gravel
twig or stick of your choice
twine
We found all of the supplies we needed for this project at our local dollar store. The plastic mason jar makes it safe for little hands!
Directions
Begin by adding a few tablespoons of sand or gravel into the jar. You may need to wipe out the inside of the jar after you pour to remove dust.
Let the sand settle and add in your foam moss rock. You can fit two if you wish.
Add in a small twig for embellishment. We simply went outside in search of the perfect stick. Break it to fit and insert into the jar.
Choose a woodland creature you wish to add. Dollar Tree sells these in packs of three so you have a variety to pick from.
Add in your creature. Replace the lid.
Finish your woodland creature terrarium by adding some ribbon or twine around the top of the jar.
Your woodland creature terrarium is now ready to be displayed.
Have fun and enjoy!
