Fun Facts:
- Eight soundstages at Shepperton Studios were used to build and house the astounding practical sets, including those for: Cherry Tree Lane, Topsy’s Fix-It Shop, the top of the tower and the clock of Big Ben and the interiors of the Banks’ home (the nursery, entry stairway, study, kitchen, living room, bathroom and attic). The Cherry Tree Lane set on H Stage was the largest, taking 18 weeks
to complete. - The abandoned park set built on A Stage which was used to film portions of the film’s biggest song and dance number, “Trip a Little Light Fantastic,” took 26 weeks to complete. The set featured five levels, a fountain, a bridge, a greenhouse and multiple stunt ramps. Included in this scene are 21 dancing lamplighters, four stunt lamplighters, eight lamplighters on bicycles and 18 ladders, 16 bicycles, 25 hybrid gas lampposts 28 dancer lampposts.
- Production designer John Myhre hid six Mickey Mouse “Easter eggs” (outlines of the distinct ears and head of Mickey Mouse) on the abandoned park set.
- The tail of the kite with which Mary Poppins arrives in “Mary Poppins Returns,” is the actual suffragette sash worn by Mrs. Banks (Glynnis Johns) in the first film.
- The white marble-topped table in the entryway of the Banks’ home is from the first film and currently resides at Club 33, Disney’s members-only club in New Orleans Square at the Disneyland Resort.
- Photographs of Mr. and Mrs. Banks (David Tomlinson and Glynnis Johns) are displayed on the fireplace mantel in the Banks’ home.
