The Best Practices to Moving Your Family and Household This Fall

October 7, 2018 by Pam Maynard

If you plan on moving this fall, it is important to have a plan to do so in an organized manner. Staying organized can help save time and money while reducing stress during the moving process. Let’s look at a few tips that can make your upcoming move as easy as possible.

The Best Practices to Moving Your Family and Household This Fall

Get the House Ready before You Move In

The fall months generally mean spending time raking leaves, inspecting the roof and caulking any cracks in the siding. This keeps your yard looking clean and the interior of the home warm and free from pests or moisture. If you are moving to a new home this fall, see if the seller will handle some or all maintenance tasks for you. If not, make arrangements to have maintenance tasks handled by a professional before the weather gets too cold.

Make the Most of Limited Daylight

Ideally, you will pack the truck and drive to your new home during the day. This is because the fall season is a prime time for deer or other animals to roam near roads in search of food. Furthermore, roads may be covered with leaves or rain, which can make them slippery and harder to drive on at night. If you have to pack at night, make sure that you have a source of light to prevent slipping or tripping while loading your truck.

Try to Move on a Weekend

Companies such as Kloke Group Moving & Storage are available to help you move whenever it is convenient for you. Moving on a Saturday or Sunday means that you don’t have to take your kids out of school or take a day off from work to complete the move. It also gives you more time to settle into your home and your new surroundings.

You Don’t Have to Sell Your Current Home

Many people mistakenly assume that they need to sell their current home before moving to their next one. However, you could choose to rent the property or keep it on the market after you leave. Doing so allows you to stay patient until the market picks back up after the holidays or the following spring.

Moving during the fall season does present unique challenges for families. However, with proper planning and the help of a professional moving company, it is possible to transition to your new home without a lot of unnecessary stress or anxiety.
