October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we are going PINK to support it!
I am going PINK!
PINK Wipers are on my Jeep and they can be on yours to show your support! Why am I going PINK? I have been working in the medical field for over 25 years. Breast Cancer Awareness is not just something we bring up once a year, it’s a daily occurrence. Specifically, I do Breast MRI’s on women of all ages who have just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer or have had Breast Cancer in the past. The emotions, the technology, and the care that goes into making a Breast MRI tolerable is one of the harder parts of my jobs. Then seeing that same patient return a few years later with metastatic cancer because they didn’t catch the Breast Cancer in time, it’s heartbreaking. Young women in their 30’s with families are dying from a lump found in their breast. So yes, Breast Cancer Awareness is part of my life every day.

- Did you know 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime?
- Did you know every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer?
- When breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 100%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.
- Exercise boosts the immune system and helps you to keep your weight in check. With as little as three hours of exercise per week, or about 30 minutes a day, a woman can begin to lower her risk of breast cancer.
- A nutritious, low-fat diet (30 grams or less) with plenty of fruits and green and orange vegetables can help reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. A high-fat diet increases the risk because fat triggers estrogen production that can fuel tumor growth.
- Valvoline Instant Oil Change has donated over $86,500 for Breast Cancer Awareness since 2012.
