Having a large family growing up, it was important that we cooked at home as it can get expensive quick to eat out. So of course, I learned how to cook from a young age. And my own child is now learning kitchen skills as well! And while it can be a wonderful process to make everything from scratch, sometimes you have to pick and choose what you make and what you buy. When I buy pre-made food items, it has to taste good and not be an outrageous price. That’s where Chef Bernard can help you spice it up right with Colours and Spice Gourmet, including sauces, salsas, spices, and soups!

My Thoughts:
Cooking has always brought me joy. Not only did I learn to cook with my mother, but also from other important people in my life like several grandmothers, aunts, and even several uncles (especially on the grill). I get to feed my family their favorite foods, or even introduce them to new meal ideas they may not order if we had gone out to eat. I’d say I’m a pretty good cook when I take my time, but if I’m in a hurry or didn’t plan ahead very well, I have no guilt in using store bought items.
Now that I’ve tasted the items from Colours and Spice Gourmet, I’m definitely a fan! My husband loves hot sauces and spices, but I don’t, so I can be bad about not having those choices available for him. But Chef Bernard has me covered with items like these!
Salsas:
- Green Salsa – Mild – I love green salsa myself, both for eating with chips but also adding into a cheese dip, with enchiladas, or mixed into rice. Several of the all natural ingredients are fire roasted which brings out a delicious smokey flavor, no matter how you enjoy the salsa.
- Red Salsa – Medium – This one gets a little hotter than the last one but it’s not too bad on the heat scale. And it’s vegan friendly, all natural, and has no preservatives so almost anyone can enjoy it without any guilt. This is what I put on my tacos!!
- Red Salsa – Hot – Definitely on the hot side! But the tomatoes, peppers, garlic and onions are all fire roasted so again, you have the heat and spice, but still the smokey/roasted flavors that meld together.
- Green Salsa – Hot – Another hot salsa like the red one and made in a very similar way. The peppers definitely crank up the heat index but it also makes for a nice steak marinade for fajitas or steaks on the grill.
Sauces:
- Dragon Spit for Hot Wings – WOW baby, a few drops will do ya! This isn’t like most hot sauces, full of vinegar and some spices. This is made of red peppers and chili peppers, including the Carolina Reaper! The guys that enjoy hot sauce have loved this one since it has a good burn but doesn’t ruin your mouth for the rest of your meal. Trust me, don’t overdo it with this sauce until you taste it.
- BBQ Sauce – Hickory – I keep BBQ sauce on hand as a pantry staple. Not only is it great on ribs, pork, and chicken, but I use it quite often in marinades or as part of a sauce because it’s tangy, smoky, and has a ton of flavor. I’d say this is a medium on the heat scale, but you can tone it up or down, depending on what you fix with it.
- BBQ Sauce – Hell Fire – I keep this BBQ sauce too, but mostly for my husband to enjoy or the guys when we join them for BBQ or wings. Chicken wings with a little Hell Fire BBQ Sauce is definitely a hit for the men in my family. We tend to make “naked” (plain) wings and then use sauce for dipping on the side.
Soups:
- Lobster Bisque – If you like lobster and seafood, then you’ll love this lobster bisque. I like to add chunks of crab or shrimp and a few stewed tomatoes and serve it with crusty bread. Plus it’s all natural and has no added gluten!
- French Onion Soup – This is a great starter for some French Onion Soup. In fact, I think you could get away with just sauteing some onions and serving them together. Of course, you could always use this as an addition to another sauce or soup if you want to experiment since it’s a rich flavor and perfectly spiced straight from the jar.
Spices:
- Fish Seasoning – The mix of herbs and spices in the Fish Seasoning make it a great compliment to any seafood really. This is something I’d use on my tilapia or flounder when I bake it in the or fry it up on the stove. It doesn’t overpower the delicate fish flavor either.
- Steak Seasoning – I personally agree with Chef Bernard that steak seasoning should bring out the flavors of the meat, not cover them up. There’s not much else I’d rather eat than a juicy steak that was grilled up with a little Steak Seasoning. Plus it contains all natural herbs and spices and no preservatives.
- BBQ – Rub – I have found that if I can’t marinate my BBQ meat for very long, then I go straight to a dry rub, like this BBQ Rub. A few sprinkles all around and we’re good to go. And this is great to toss on your potatoes and vegetables too for a light BBQ hint of flavor.
Can you tell I enjoy their products? Not only do I love finding a great spice or seasoning for one particular type of dish, but even better when I can use it in a variety of ways! Like using the soup base for a sauce, salsa to mix into rice, or even a spice to flavor up vegetables! Items that I love to use and/or can be used in multiple dishes always find a spot in my pantry or spice rack and these delicious items from Colours and Spice Gourmet are now visible in several places around my kitchen and pantry. Whether you’re a talented home chef or just getting started, these make a great way to spice it up right with Colours and Spice Gourmet. Even if you give several products in a gift basket or as a housewarming present, then order a few for yourself!
