Hos to Get Into the Christmas Spirti

November 21, 2012 by Pam Maynard

Decorate!

Christmas is slowly but surely coming our way, and being one of the best and ‘warmest’ family holidays, there is nothing else you can do but to welcome and embrace it. It is one of these times of the year when everybody is happier and friendlier. However, some people find it extremely difficult to find the Christmas cheer. If you are one of these folks, remember that there is nothing that says ‘Christmas’ better than some fabulous and sparkling Christmas decoration. So, here are some handy advices to help you decorate your home and get it and yourself ready for that glorious holiday.

Remember the golden rule – keep it simple! Do not overdo and go over the top. Not only will this NOT help you achieve the desired effect, but you will also end up having spent too much money on decoration. ‘Spread’ the decoration all over the house/roof/front yard instead of huddling it all on one place. In a way, to have a little bit of Christmas everywhere in the house.

How to Get Into Christmas Spirit by Decorating

Think twice before you buy inflatable outdoor decoration. Surely, that balloony Santa looks fun, but if you or your neighbor has any sharp clawed pets (cats, dogs), that cheerful decoration will soon be turned to smithereens. Not to mention the fact that a sudden storm could blow it far away and make it someone else’s front yard decoration.
Before you start decorating the Christmas tree, pick a nice spot for it in the house. A good idea is to place it next to a window that overlooks the front yard. This is how it will be on the display even for casual passers-by.
If you think of putting candles around the house, you need to first think about safety. Sure candles are a nice way of contributing to the Christmas spirit, but they could also start a fire. Rather choose battery-powered light bulbs that resemble candles.
Don’t forget that there is time for everything. What this means is that you need not either put on your decoration too early or take it down too late. This is no race. However, many families love to decorate their house first on the block and start as early as the middle of November. There is no need for that. Wait for Thanksgiving to pass, and then think about Christmas. One holiday at a time. As for taking decoration down, not later than the 5th of January is just fine. The aforementioned goes for Christmas related clothing, too.
Strive for originality. Try to stand out by doing something unusually original. Do not copy your neighbors.
Everything is better with lights! If there is a tree in your front yard, consider decorating it, as well as putting some lights on your roof as well. However, again, do not go over the top. After all, you wouldn’t want to cause the power in your neighborhood to go out due to too much electricity consumption. It would boost your power bill, anyway. Also, do not leave the lights on 24/7.
When you go on a shopping spree for decoration, be sure to buy such items that can be used numerous times. You wouldn’t want to spend lots of cash on decoration which you will throw away once Christmas is over.
When it’s time for decorating, remember that not everything needs to be bought from the store. You can get creative and make some decoration of our own. Make ornaments of fabric, paper, etc. Just use your imagination and go DIY.
And remember, whatever you do, have fun decorating. Christmas is all about fun and let nothing spoil that!
