Unicorn Horseshoe
The trend this year is unicorns, and boy do I know it! My daughter is turning 12 and she has been talking about her unicorn birthday party ever since her 11th birthday party ended. She is crazy about unicorns, and just about any other creature with a unicorn horn. There are Llama-corns now, at least there are on her clothes. Since she had to have a unicorn party with all the fun rainbows, glitter, and sweet treats, I decided a fun craft was in order. After all the sweets on the menu I did not want to decorate ice cream cones with icing to make horns. Instead I thought a horseshoe would be a lasting favor, so here is my Unicorn Horseshoe.
Materials
- Small Iron Horsehoes
- Varied ribbons in multiple colors and thicknesses (the thinner ones work best though so do not get real thick)
- String
- scissors
Process
This craft is really easy and fun. You can pre-cut the ribbon for young children and then all they have to do it string it onto the horseshoe. First you decide how long you want the ribbon to hang down from the horseshoe. Then double that length and cut the ribbon. Take the loop side of the ribbon and place it beneath the iron horseshoe. Then take the two ends and pull them up and push them through the loop. Pull it tight and your first ribbon is complete.
Remember that unicorns love rainbows so make sure you have a bunch of colorful ribbons to choose from. Once the first one is done, pick a second color ribbon and cut it around the same length as the first. You can do your lengths different to give it a staggered effect. Now with the second ribbon you do the same process as the first.
Finally you just repeat the steps until the entire bottom of the Unicorn Horseshoe is covered in streaming ribbons. Oh how beautiful it is! Lastly take a thin string and tie it to the tops of the horseshoe so you can hang up your magical work of art. You can embellish the tops with flowers or rainbows or anything else too. I decided to leave ours simple and pretty. Plus I didn’t want the girls at the party to have to deal with hot glue.
Now that these Unicorn Horseshoes are done, you can see how pretty they are , and how easy they are to make. Therefore you can bring home some unicorn magic and do this with your kids, or use it at a unicorn theme party. I love sending my daughter’s friends home with a fun reminder of the themed party they got to enjoy. There is going to be a photo backdrop at the party too, and the girls could print their picture and tape it inside their Unicorn Horseshoe as a beautiful momento.
