Thoughtful Tuesday: Going back to school online

December 20, 2011 by Pam Maynard

Do you ever consider continuing your education?

Did you know that for every one person who enrolls in tradition college,  ten MORE pursue and online degree instead!  I find that amazing.  Check out http://www.onlinedegree.com for more facts and figures about the changes in online education.   The growth of online distance education has soared through the roof in recent years.  When I went for my Associates in Radiology then my Bachelors of Science in Business Marketing, I drove 30 miles back and forth to classes 3 to 4 days a week. I also worked full time to put myself through school.

Once I completed my 10 year goal (my BS in Marketing) I still craved that learning experience.  I am a perpetual student.  I love to learn, meet new people and yes, I even like to write the papers!  After I had my son, I actually completed a Masters in Business Communication from an online university.  It was such a great experience.  I still am amazed that I was able to complete my degree, work full time and be a wife and mom.

If I had to do it today, I don’t think I would be so successful.  My time management skills are a bit lacking these days.  If had to choose it all over again, I always chose online learning.  Classes are so flexible.  You don’t spend money on gas or boarding.  In many cases, you don’t have to buy textbooks.  Everything is online.  At http://www.onlinedegree.com you can see for yourself how much more sense it makes to choose online learning from a financial viewpoint.

What would you choose?  Do you have time to leave your house, kids or responsibilities for hours at a time to sit in a class full of people who really don’t want to be there?

If you were to choose to go back to school, what would you major in?  What are your interests, hobbies, strengths?  You can find a variety of specialized studies here  at http://www.onlinedegree.com/degrees.  Helpful articles on balancing work and education and even “the biggest obstacles of online education” are located there.  Maybe I can learn something new to help with my time management skills.

Good luck and happy learning!
