Wales: Dog-friendly beaches to explore this autumn
One of the benefits of booking a staycation is that your furry friend can join the holiday, too. So, with this in mind, we wanted to take a look at just a handful of dog-friendly beaches in Wales where all are welcome to roam and explore as you walk hand in hand with your loved one.
Whether you’ve booked a staycation to Wales this autumn already or you’re looking at October breaks UK destinations are offering within Wales, here are just some of the beaches you could be strolling along as a family with your four-legged friend in tow.
Broad Haven, St Brides Bay, Pembrokeshire
This stretch of beach is very popular with swimmers, surfers and other water sports enthusiasts. The beach itself is clean, sandy and sheltered by tree-topped cliffs on both sides.
Being along the Pembrokeshire coast, you’ll be able to view the UK’s only coastal national park on your visit to Broad Haven.
The sand found on Broad Haven is firm on foot, making it a great surface for all dogs that visit to roam and chase balls and frisbees.
Two streams flow out onto the beach here, making it the perfect place for a paddle for you and your pooch. Plus, at low tide, you may be able to take a walk and immerse yourself fully into your surroundings by walking from south Broad Haven to a small and rocky inlet called Little Haven.
Please be aware that dogs are only allowed on Broad Haven between 1st October and 30th April.
Rhossili, Gower
Rhossili Beach was once ranked by The Times, as The UK’s No.1 dog-friendly beach and it’s easy to see why when you visit. This three-mile stretch of beach is a safe and welcoming beach for all dogs, all year through. The wet sands at low tide, tend to be a firm favourite with all furry visitors.
If you fancy a gentle walk on your visit there’s a circular walk you can partake in, along the Wales Coast Path via Llanennith, which leads to the cliffs that overlook Rhossili, which eventually leads you onto the beach itself.
Manorbier Beach, Tenby, Pembrokeshire
If you’re looking for a dog-friendly beach that offers both sand and pebble sections, Manorbier Beach could be the destination for you. If this wasn’t enough, looking down onto the beach is a stately castle, helping to create a dreamy backdrop to your staycation in Wales.
Due to its south-westerly position along the coastline, Manorbier is popular with surfers. We do advise to take care near the water as this stretch of sea is known, on occasion, to have strong currents.
If you fancy a stroll, the village of Manorbier is a short walk away. There it offers a few places to grab a bite to eat, as well as a few shops to mooch around in.
With 870 miles of varied coastline to explore in Wales, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect place to roam and wander with your pooch this autumn on your staycation to the land of the red dragon.
