Nail Care: Tips on Correcting Nails

April 9, 2024 by Pam Maynard

Have you ever looked at your nails and had a tug of dissatisfaction inside you? Perhaps they are not so strong, so shiny, or so perfect-looking as the way you want them to be. The plentiful are the ones who try their best to have that perfect manicure, but to get it, there is more than just the color you pick. It is not about the top—beautiful nails, but rather about the foundation—healthy nails. Having suffered a long time, I can tell from experience that there are certain ways that work not only for me but for a multitude of others as well. These aren’t just merely tips; they are a concerted effort to prevent the nails from becoming brittle and weak that are beautified under the polish. Why don’t we start with nail care? It’s really interesting. You’ll discover how it is possible to have beautiful nails that are not just a showcase for you, but also, strong nails.

The Basis for Healthy Nails: Starting Right

Before we even think about polish, let’s talk about what lies beneath. Nail health begins with understanding what our nails are and what they need. Did you know that nails are made of keratin, a protein that’s also found in our skin and hair? This means that, like the rest of our body, our nails require certain nutrients to thrive, including biotin, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids.

But it’s not just about what we ingest. External care is equally important. Regular hydration with oils and lotions can prevent brittleness, while proper filing techniques can prevent splitting. Here are the steps to lay the foundation for healthy nails:

  1. Hydrate: The application of cuticle oil and hand lotion is recommended for your nails and the skin surrounding your nails to be properly moisturized.
  2. Nutrition: Take in foods rich in biotin, vitamin E, and omega-3s through your diet.
  3. Gentle Care: Glass files should be preferred for smoother edges, and filing in one direction just helps reduce damage.

This mindful selection process, emphasizing products like DNKa nail polish, ensures that beauty does not come at the expense of health. By choosing wisely, you protect and nourish your nails, laying a strong foundation for both health and beauty.

However, it does not only matter what you choose, but also what you reject. Remember often unfriendly chemicals like those that often are in nail polish removers will do a lot of damage to your nails. Choose acetone-free removers where it is possible.

Choosing the Right Products: Safe Polish

Now we lay the ground for the next step: nail polish choice. That is not to say that all lacquers are like this, and some can be equally harmful. The recent fashion for “5-free,” “7-free,” and even “10-free” polishes, in which less toxic ingredients are the main focus, shows the spread of knowledge about safer nail care products. This polish contains no chemicals that are considered hazardous and is typically found in nail polish, like formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP. These choices will diminish the possible harm to our nails, as they will remain strong and healthy even under loads of nail paint.

When selecting a polish, consider the following:

  1. Ingredient List: opt for polishes that are devoid of chemical solutions.
  2. Brand Reputation: See which brands are well-known for their nails health quality, the safest brands, and so on.
  3. Reviews: Don’t miss out what other users are commenting on their experience towards the effects of the polish on the strength of their nails and overall health.

Keep in mind that polishing is not just about appearance but also it should ensure the wellness of your nail in the long run.

Keeping the Shine: A how-to and ongoing care guidelines

After you have selected a non-toxic nail polish and polish applicators that will not harm your nails, the correct application technique will play a big role in achieving the polish that will not only remain longer on but also protect your nails. Furthermore, a regular polish application not only guarantees longevity, but it also saves you from frequent nail breakage. Here’s how to apply your polish while keeping your nails in tip-top shape:

  • Base Coat: Start with the base coat that is thoroughly and exactly applied at all times. This is the stage where you guard your natural nails from discoloring and boost their strength. Certain nail colorants contain nutrients and minerals to not only make nails look attractive but to take care of as well.
  • Thin Layers: Do not apply it in thick layers. Instead, apply it thinly and evenly. A thick layer can take more time than usual to dry; thus, there are higher risks of smears and peelings. Two thin layers versus one thick layer should be applied.
  • Top Coat: Finish with a clear top coat to seal in the color and add a layer of protection. A good top coat can prevent chipping, extending the life of your manicure.
  • Touch-ups: If you notice a small chip, a quick touch-up can extend the life of your manicure by several days. Just be sure to apply a thin layer of top coat over the repair.
  • Regular Breaks: Give your nails a break between polishes. This allows them to breathe and recover, maintaining their natural strength and flexibility.
  • Gentle Removal: When it’s time to remove your polish, opt for a gentle, acetone-free remover. Soak a cotton pad and press it against your nail for a few seconds before wiping away the polish. This minimizes damage and keeps your nails healthy.

Following this procedure, you accomplish not only an exquisite and lasting manicure but also healthy and resilient nails. As opposed to most people’s belief that polish is only there for appearance, it is also used to prevent the nails from breaking and to safeguard the integrity of the nails underneath the polish.
