Little ones can be very unbalanced when they are learning to navigate the world. That is why mothers and fathers stand behind them when they are learning to walk, run, and ride bicycles. Woom is a company that understands this because Woom is a bicycle company, founded by two dads. They have developed the perfect bike for every stage of their children’s lives.
About Woom
Our company’s story began with the decision of two bike-mad dads, Christian Bezdeka and Marcus Ihlenfeld, to develop a bike for their kids that would perfectly fit the proportions and riding behaviour of children.
In 2013, the time was finally right: Christian, a trained biomedical technician with a degree in industrial design and years of experience within the bike industry, and Marcus, who up to that point had been a marketing manager within the automotive industry, founded woom in a garage in Vienna.
After Christian struggled to find enough statistical data online about the anatomy of children, he developed his own size tables to perfectly adapt the bikes to the needs and proportions of children.
Even before founding woom, Marcus taught some 200 children how to ride a bike on the street right in front of the garage, allowing them to experience that magical moment.
Woom 1
I had never even heard of a balance bike until my granddaughter was born. I saw little ones riding bikes with no pedals and figured they were for some sort of development, but I never researched it until the little girl who changed my life was born.
The Woom 1 is a lightweight 12″ balance bike designed for little ones aged 18 months and older. My little granddaughter is almost two and she loves it! She has to learn to sit on the bike instead of her walking with it, however, she’s a fast learner and will be riding a bike with pedals sooner than we think.
The Woom 1 balance bike shows little ones how fun biking can be. This one is designed to introduce toddlers to steering, balancing, and stopping – all before pedals are introduced. I look forward to baby girl conquering all of these milestones.
What Does the Woom 1 Offer?
The Woom 1 Balance Bike has an innovative rear brake, a lightweight aluminum frame, ergonomic contact points, a Safety-First steering limiter, integrated stem and handlebars, air-filled tires, and tailor-made wheels.
When I saw the hand brake attached to the handlebars, I thought to myself, ‘Why is there a brake when there are no pedals?” This, I know now, is to teach your child to brake before they need it. This small adjustable green brake lever fits your child’s hand.
Some bikes can be heavy and a little one will have a hard time holding it up while learning to use it. I watched my little grand fall over, jump back up, and ask to do it again. By the time we were frozen by the weather, she was holding it up pretty well with no help. The seat on the frame is ergonomic, has rubber grips for safety, and is adjustable for height. I was very happy to see that because some children are taller than others. This bike was literally made for toddlers and I couldn’t be happier with it.
The tires and wheels on the Woom 1 are pretty innovative. The tires are air-filled, which makes them easy to roll, they have plenty of traction and are durable. The wheels are Soopa Doopa Hoops. They are specifically designed to be kid-friendly, have frictionless hubs, and double-walled rims.
Kid’s Helmet
No new bike would be complete without a new matching helmet. This is my grand’s favorite thing. She runs around the house with it on and giggles. It’s adorable. The Woom Kid’s Helmet comes in three sizes, six different colors, and is made to protect the forehead, temples, and the back of the head. To guarantee the perfect fit, there is a magnetic closure system for the chin strap, interchangeable pads, and a size adjustment dial. It is a perfect helmet for any toddler learning to ride a bike.
My Thoughts
As my granddaughter gets older, I’m sure I will find some great products that not only help with her development but will do so in a way that she thinks she’s just playing. Woom has those products. I’m impressed with it because not only does baby girl love it, but it will help her development as she grows. The Woom 1 Balance Bike and Kid’s Helmet is a 10 out of 10!
