9 Fundamental Reasons Why Family Travel is Important

9 Fundamental Reasons Why Travel is Important for Families

Doing activities together is an important part of maintaining the family unit. Doing stuff as a group can make many wonderful memories that each family member can look back on with joy. One of the best ways to keep the whole family rejuvenated and tight-knit is to get out there and explore, and do some family travel!  Studies from Science Direct show that spending time specifically for leisure activities improves closeness and reduces conflict between parents and children. Choosing travel as the go-to family activity is a great idea because of the many fundamental benefits it provides.

It Can Create Meaningful Memories

Meaningful memories are core components in the fabric of each person. For children, it can inform their growth. For adults, it can bolster them forward through the ups and downs of life. As a family, having meaningful memories together strengthens your connection as a whole.

Once you pick a fun family-friendly place like Gatlinburg, it’s easy to set things up for some great memories.  If you’re looking for a different environment, you might also explore hotels near Florham Park for a more laid-back experience.

Pick out some comfy lodgings, make sure you pack the right stuff and feel free to visit all the major attractions that would interest every family member. Topping it off with some great food and a scenic drive can easily make for definitive memories that are worth looking back on.

It Can Provide Educational Experiences

Traveling as a family is a chance to learn things. There are so many places that offer up new knowledge on history, science, cuisine, culture, and more just by immersing yourself in the experience.

Studies from the Journal of Travel Research show that family travel can have a good learning impact in terms of life skills, comprehension, and personal growth. This applies even when it’s “objectiveless” travel, so even without an agenda both young adults and grownups can glean some newfound knowledge from traveling.

Travel is Great for their Development

Family travel is a great contributor to a child’s development. Studies show that children that are exposed to travel and other cultures become better at problem-solving and tend to be more willing to learn.

As featured in a family travel article by Love Holidays, students who travel more end up with higher academic scores. Considering how it also contributes to personal growth, there’s a direct benefit for adults in this regard, too.

Travel Expands Everyone’s Horizons

Perspective can be a wonderful thing to gain early on. When traveling with the family, children have a unique chance to have more open-mindedness and empathy as they see different cultures. Travel also exposes people of all ages to new activities they may have otherwise never known about, with the benefit of a safety net in the form of family.

Traveling Together is Great for Bonding

It goes without saying that bonding is essential for both children and parents, and travel is one of the best vehicles for family bonding. According to data from the Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs, strong family engagement is a core factor in “improving outcomes for children and youth”.

Children who spend enjoyable time with their parents are less likely to turn to delinquency.  On top of those behavioral benefits, bonding is just a wonderful experience for all family members. It’s always great to connect over things with a family member.

Traveling Builds Resilience

Adaptability and flexibility are important factors for both children and adults. Thankfully, family travel provides the security of family while still exposing you to cultural differences, new environments, and a host of issues that tend to crop up when dealing with flights and accommodations among other things.

Whether you’re a child that’s still learning in life or an adult that deals with stress-coping mechanisms, this is a benefit that cannot be overlooked.

It’s a Fun Way to Change Up Your Routine

Countless studies emphasize the need for occasional breaks from the usual routine. As far back as 1926, there have already been papers on how monotony can have both physical and mental effects on people.

A century later, the National Library of Medicine still sees new studies that have shown have boredom has led to pervasive feelings of meaninglessness, weariness, and frustration.

These feelings have only been intensified by the pandemic even as people return to normalcy. If only to keep the peace and have every family member feeling engaged in life, family travel can be an enjoyable solution.

It Puts Experiences at the Forefront

It’s good to establish what priorities you have in life, and children who travel may learn to appreciate experiences more than mere possessions. It’s also a good way to instill more value in life over material objects for the grownups in the family, too.

After all, studies from Michigan State University found that even kids as young as 14 months old will copy their parents. This trickles over to later years, so it’s worth leading by example in a fascinating way like traveling.

Travel Can Come With Opportunity

Every time you travel as a family, it’s an opportunity to grow, discover something awesome, and even make new connections that lead to exciting progression in life. It’s a great way to make adventure become palatable and accessible without much risk.

For instance, you could take the whole family to Pigeon Forge and immediately be met with the Great Smoky Mountains, ziplines, white water rafting, dinner shows, escape rooms, magic shows, and all sorts of attractions and events that make life more colorful.
