Passing on Financial Literacy to the Next Generation: A Parent’s Legacy

May 23, 2023 by Pam Maynard

Parents must raise their children in the best possible way to prepare them for the future and the adult world. An unavoidable part of our lives is money, we cannot live without it. However, mastering financial literacy and all types of finance is a matter of skill. There are lots of tools for teaching financial literacy and one of the best ones is debit cards for kids.

Why financial literacy is important

If you are confused by the concept of financial literacy, it refers to a person’s ability to understand various financial methods, and various financial components such as the actual savings plan, investments, debt repayment, social credit score, and many others.

Money is the most important secondary thing in the world, therefore financial literacy as such is very important.

People who play a big role

People who play a big role when it comes to financial education are grandparents, parents, and the environment in which the child is. Children absorb what is happening around them like a sponge and imitate what they see around them.

Therefore, it is crucial here that parents and grandparents watch how they talk about money and how they treat money in front of their children.

Ways of imparting financial knowledge to children

There are various options for imparting financial knowledge to children, from open conversations with children about money to creating a detailed savings plan and the possibility of giving children credit cards.

All these items are very important, and one that is a turning point when it comes to teaching children financial literacy is precisely the children’s credit card.

The boom in children’s credit card users

The innovative method of the creator of this type of tool is intended and adapted completely for children so that they can start learning about financial literacy. Many studies have shown that those children who use this method of learning about finances later when they grow up do not have problems with debts and money.

The process of opening an account is quick and easy, the parent opens an account on behalf of the children by providing the necessary personal information of the child. After filling in all the necessary information, the account is activated when the parent deposits funds into it and is ready for use.

What makes a children’s credit card special?

Given that it imitates the world of adults, it is intended for children to prepare and learn everything they need about the financial world. Within the application, children can create their own plans for savings, earn, shop, invest in various stocks and companies, and donate to various voluntary associations as desired.

Children can access all types of different finances at any time.

They can see what the account balance is, and if they decide to invest, they will be able to monitor the stocks, i.e. whether they are falling, growing, or stagnating. Apart from this, perhaps the parents’ favorite gadget is activity tables. These are personalized and easily adaptable activity tables to each child.

Encourage children to become entrepreneurs

You must have had the opportunity to see children selling lemonade, walking dogs, mowing grass, delivering newspapers, and many more. What is important here is that the child chooses what to do, whether it is babysitting, taking care of pets, walking the dogs or playing games is up to them to decide.

This is a great way to encourage children to earn extra money with their hard work.

Passing on Financial Literacy to the Next Generation

Don’t correct their mistakes

If the children make a mistake and spend all their money before they get the next allowance money, you must hold your ground and not give in to help them. We all learn best from our own mistakes, and so do children.

What is important is that they take responsibility in that way they will learn a lesson. Also, children are very creative and imaginative, and they can find a way to solve a certain problem on their own. You as a parent need to be there as a support. Let the children think outside the box and find the solutions to their problems by themselves.

Conclusion

Although sometimes teaching children financial literacy can be exhausting, remember that you are preparing children to be independent adults. Thanks to the development of technology, many things have changed, including the approach to money.

Children need to be socially sensitive and not brag about money to their friends, because not everyone is lucky enough to have a warm home and meals every day.
