Mommy makeover surgery is on the rise, with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reporting that women’s attitudes about cosmetic surgery have changed dramatically over the past 10 years.
ASPS President, Phillip Haeck, MD, explains that women are no longer ashamed to admit that while they love being moms, some “wish their bodies looked the way they did before their first pregnancies.”
Mommy makeovers, which often involve more than one procedure, are seen as an ideal way to achieve this aim in one go, so that women do not have to spend time away from their kids more than once. Below are just a few trends being seen in mommy makeovers.
Combination Surgery
Most people associate a mommy makeover with a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. Still, many clients are opting to tighten their tummies while also opting for other procedures—including breast lifts, breast augmentations, liposuction, and Brazilian butt lifts.
When it comes to liposuction, fat removed from an unwanted area (such as the tummy) is reinjected (‘transferred’) into another area—for instance, the hips (during a Brazilian butt lift) or the breasts (to complement the use of breast implants).
As such, some patients are choosing to restore their former figure and convert it into their desired body. A mommy makeover can also involve the removal of excess skin for a tighter appearance.
Intimate Surgery
Sometimes, women who have had an episiotomy or lost firmness in the vaginal area post-birth decide to rejuvenate their intimate area via plastic surgery. The vaginoplasty technique involves a minimally invasive reconstruction of the pelvic area to restore firmness and tightness.
It is often complemented by painless laser vaginal rejuvenation. Also popular are labiaplasties. Women who wish to reduce skin in their labial folds to have a ‘flatter’ appearance in a bikini sometimes request a combination of this procedure and other intimate ones.
Facial Enhancement
Mommy makeovers are now also involving facial work. After all, having a baby can result in many nights of missed sleep, and the ensuing tiredness can show up on your skin.
When it comes to facial enhancement, non-invasive procedures such as Fractora and Fraxel, Silhouette Instalift, and Ultherapy are all holding sway.
Ultherapy is one of the newest and most in-demand treatments at the moment. It involves gently heating the deeper layers of skin (via ultrasound waves) in the neck, chin, brow, and upper chest to boost collagen production.
Collagen is one of the skin’s most vital building blocks, as it is responsible for its strength and elasticity. Ultherapy is also used to treat skin in the mouth, as this area can lose firmness over time.
Mommy makeovers are skyrocketing in popularity across the globe. Women are opting for everything from tummy tucks to liposuction and fat transfer. Intimate surgery and facial treatments are also making a roaring trade. These trends result from a wish to enjoy motherhood while also turning back the hands of time.
