Exercising is something that we all try to fit into our daily lives, but it can be super difficult at times. Every month you might start a new regime and then by the end of the first week, you’ve given up and have lost all motivation to do it.
You may have even bought the best protein powder for weight loss and the latest running gear, but then after a few days, you no longer can be bothered to keep up the routine.
If this sounds like you, then keep reading and discover just how easy it can be to motivate yourself to work out once again!
Hold Yourself Accountable
One of the most important things you can do to motivate yourself is to hold yourself accountable. It can be easy to slack off your routine, as only you know you haven’t done it.
However, if you hold yourself to a higher standard and push yourself, you’ll find that your motivation returns. Instead of always thinking you’re too busy to exercise, still try to do it, no matter how little time you have.
If you plan to go for a 40-minute run on the treadmill, try doing a 20-minute walk instead. You’ll probably find that once you actually get to the gym and hop on the treadmill, your motivation has come back, and you may even end up doing your run anyway.
So, don’t let yourself become your own worst enemy, and hold yourself accountable.
Plan It Ahead Of Time
It can be hard to try and fit in your workouts when you’re busy, which can then easily lead to you losing motivation to do it. To combat this, make sure you plan when you’re going to work out ahead of time.
This way, you aren’t trying to squeeze it in when you don’t want to. Setting aside a certain amount of time a few times a week is easily achievable and doesn’t require you to try and fit it in when you’re too busy. Don’t plan to exercise on days when you know you most likely won’t end up doing it.
Weekdays are best because who wants to spend their Saturday nights at the gym? Download a workout planner or even use your calendar to plan your workouts for maximum motivation.
Exercise With A Friend
If you lack motivation when exercising because you get bored, try to see if you can get a friend involved as well. Having someone there to talk to and cheer you on when it gets tough can make a huge difference to your mood.
You’ll find that it suddenly becomes a lot more fun again, and you’ll start to look forward to exercising now instead of dreading it. Having a friend you can chat to while you exercise takes it from being a dull, strenuous task, to a fun, social event.
So, see if any of your friends or loved ones are willing to exercise with you, and you’ll soon see your motivation increase.
Give Yourself Targets
Everybody loves to achieve their goals, so why not add them to your exercise regime? This doesn’t mean you have to set goals like how heavy you can lift or how long you can run.
Try making your goal simple at first and be something like “I will go to the gym three times this week”. That’s easily achievable and once you hit it, you’ll feel motivated to do it again and again.
You can make your targets harder as you go on but don’t set them too high. You want them to be something that you can achieve. Otherwise, you’ll feel like a failure when you don’t hit them.
So, add some targets to your exercise regimes, and you’ll soon feel your motivation growing.
Try To Make It Fun
Finally, you want to make exercise fun! If it becomes a chore, your motivation will drop, and you’ll never want to go. Try out a few different exercises and see which feels right for your body.
Not everyone is destined to be a runner or a weightlifter, so you must find the movement you enjoy most. Try signing up for some classes at the gym and see if you can find something you like this way.
You could even try out something you never even thought about doing before, like Zumba or Pilates. You’ll be surprised at how much you may like them. So, make sure you make your exercise routines fun, and they’ll be so much easier to stick to long term.
Exercise isn’t always the first thing you want to do when you finish work or get up in the morning. But these tips should really help with your motivation and make it feel like something you enjoy.
Exercise shouldn’t be a chore or extremely difficult. It should be something that you can incorporate into your daily life and feel good about. So, try taking these tips on board and see if you can restore your motivation to exercise. You’ll soon see the difference they can make, and you’ll exercise more than ever!
