Because I am not a shoe designer or a doctor, I’ve assumed a child’s foot is like an adult’s foot only smaller. Well, turns out I’m not the only one who thinks that. Historically, baby shoes are made just like adult shoes, just shrunken down. However, Dr. Jay LeBow studied x-rays of children’s feet and found out that babies don’t have arches or the structural stabilization to bear weight. Their feet are still developing.
Dr. LeBow and colleagues Mike Gugat and David Hirshfield designed a line of baby and toddler shoes anatomically designed for children. They have a patent pending on their uniquely designed shoe. jbrd shoes support and stabilize your baby’s feet while promoting healthy development.

This is so that your baby’s foot will be supported while she’s wearing them. Also, they promote the healthy development of feet and the lower portion of the body by supporting the weight-bearing structure of their foot. jbrds also built in a contoured heel for more stabilization.
A baby’s foot is still developing after birth. Around the time your child reaches age one, the foot develops a cuboid bone. This little bone is one of the seven tarsal bones located on the outer side of the foot. It’s a cubed-shaped bone that connects the foot and the ankle. It also provides stability to the foot. This helps you to stand and walk. I’d say that’s pretty important. jbrds has taken this and developed shoes to promote healthy growth.
My Thoughts
How jbrds are made has made me think of adult shoes with arches and raised heels. jbrds doesn’t have that. They truly have taken a baby’s foot’s anatomy and developed shoes around it. That, to me, is wonderful because littles are just as important as adults.
Now, all of the technical stuff aside, look how cute these shoes are. They have a built-in sock (of course it’s for stability, but it’s super important to the design). The silicone outside has a velcro strap that holds the shoes on little baby feet. My granddaughter is a little small for them right now, but we can’t wait to see them on her when she’s walking.
