Every time we read about moving, we hear about how hard and stressful it can be. Some of us even know that it hurts our mental and physical health.
But even though moving house is often said to be stressful, not everyone understands why it is so stressful and causes so much anxiety.
To help, let’s look at some of the things that make moving house so stressful. You can do something about them once you know what they are.
Financial Worries
When you move, you will have to pay a lot of money for different fees and charges. If you don’t know how much money you’ll need, it can be hard to save up for this expense ahead of time. Moving can also be very stressful because of how much it costs, especially if you are on a tight budget.
Most of the time, there are also other costs that come as a surprise.
These can include things like buying furniture items and other decorative items for your new place, having some of your things go missing or get damaged during the move, paying extra fees because your car isn’t big enough to carry all of your things, and more.
Not Enough Time
Moving is often stressful because people don’t have enough time or their plans clash. People who want to move often feel like they don’t have much free time, which makes it hard to get everything done on time.
This usually means taking some days off work and making less money, which can be stressful for some people, as we mentioned above.
Some people have to move around the needs of other people. For example, if you’re a parent and your kids need to finish school before you move, you might have to wait until they’re done. This can make the process more difficult and take more time.
Not Enough Preparation
Not being ready enough is another common cause of stress when moving. Many people don’t do their homework before moving, which can make them feel overwhelmed when the time comes.
Because of this, they often make a lot of mistakes or don’t finish things when they should have months ago. This is why it’s so important to book your international removalist or local movers well ahead of time – do it as soon as you know when you’re moving.
Big Changes
Some people find moving to be stressful because they are going through a lot of changes all at once.
This can include things like starting over with their social circle and other relationships, making new friends after being with the same ones for a long time, getting used to a completely new job and way of life, starting at a new school or university with their child(ren) before the move, and more.
Some people also find it hard to move because it makes them deal with their feelings and old memories. This can include things like thinking about a home you had to leave or a job you used to have.
Others have to deal with loss and grief over what has been lost or changed, fear of starting over, and uncertainty about the future.
