How to Plan Your Bathroom Layout With Walk-In Showers

August 22, 2022 by Pam Maynard

A walk-in shower is an excellent option for small bathrooms because it doesn’t take up as much floor space as a standard bathtub. However, it can make the room seem more cramped.

If you’re thinking about adding one, consider how many sinks you’ll need and how much storage space you’ll need. Adding a recessed medicine cabinet and over-the-door shelving can also benefit small bathrooms.

Common bathroom layouts

While you can choose from many bathroom layouts, one of the most popular is the off-center layout. This layout features an irregular, wide area in the middle of the bathroom, making the room appear more spacious.

This Bathroom Remodel design has many variations, such as an anti-splash glass shower enclosure or a separate walk-in shower cubicle. The toilet may also be placed parallel to the shower, creating a dual shower-tub design. The double sinks with diagonal edges can be added to this layout if desired.

The layout that maximizes space is dependent upon the user’s lifestyle. Most bathrooms follow the traditional work triangle. To maximize the space, functions should be centered around the central space.

However, it is essential to remember that there are limitations to this approach, such as existing plumbing, drains, ventilation, and a bathtub. The size of the bathroom is also a consideration, as changing existing plumbing and vents can increase the project’s cost.

Tips for designing a walk-in shower

Many people are leery about installing walk-in showers because of the hassles of standing in it. However, this type of shower can be both luxurious and relaxing. By incorporating a marble seat, you can turn your walk-in shower into a spa, a place to prop your leg while shaving, or simply an attractive storage area for body wash and shampoo bottles.

To make the most of this luxurious bathroom addition, you need to know the basics of walk-in shower design.

For a spacious walk-in shower, you need to consider your floor space. A more oversized walk-in shower can accommodate multiple shower heads, creating a rain effect.

In addition, you can choose a walk-in shower with a large sliding entrance for seamless circulation throughout the plan. Finally, lighting is often overlooked when designing a walk-in shower. A soft overhead light will make your shower experience more pleasant.

Designing a walk-in shower with a glass door

A walk-in shower is a great option if you have a small bathroom. You can design the shower to be a seamless part of your bathroom layout, blending seamlessly with the rest of the room. Adding a splash-proof glass door to your shower makes cleaning a breeze, and the glass doors make it look spacious.

Of course, you can still use a glass shower enclosure if you have tricky roof lines.. The shower and tub share a complementary color palette and a bench to create an aesthetically pleasing space.

There are two main styles of trackless shower doors: pivot and hinged. Pivot trackless doors are more contemporary and may be better for small bathrooms. Hinge trackless doors are anchored to the wall, open and close, similar to a standard shower door, but don’t have the same flexibility.

Hinged trackless shower doors open and close like a standard door but only swing one way. You can also choose which direction you want the door to face to get a clear view of the shower.

Designing a walk-in shower with a freestanding tub

If you are remodeling your bathroom, there are several factors that you should consider before deciding on a shower or freestanding tub. Many people are interested in a freestanding tub, but this type of shower does not meet ADA standards. You must also consider the size of the room and layout before you make your final decision. Fortunately, many design ideas can help you decide which options are best for your bathroom.

Most walk-in showers are separate from the rest of the bathroom, but you can also make it part of the same layout if you want to. For example, this design allows you to incorporate a separate toilet compartment, which is often difficult to fit into smaller bathrooms. In addition, using marble tiles in your shower area will give your bathroom an air of luxury without risking looking dated.
