Home Improvements To Make Your Home Feel Fresh

August 10, 2022 by Pam Maynard

You immediately sense entering a joyful house as soon as you open the door. But what is it about a home that makes it happy? Our perception of home is undoubtedly influenced by the emotion we bring with us, but our surroundings can also have an impact.

Most of us have, at some point, felt uninspired or unsatisfied by our home’s interior after taking a look around. The wall color you previously adored may now feel dreary or antiquated, or perhaps you attempted a few fads that don’t look as current as they once did.

Whatever your motivations, it’s almost certain that you’ll feel ready to upgrade your home with fresh, motivational touches at some point. Our financial resources, though, aren’t often as great as our desire for change.

Fortunately, there are a lot of interior improvements you can make that will look great and only take a short amount of time or money. Make sure to put the following interior upgrades on your to-do list if you want to fall in love with your house all over again.

To begin, use a neutral color palette.

Have you ever noticed how neutral colors dominate the majority of luxurious homes? Color schemes that are neutral have a serene, uncluttered, and timeless air. When updating expensive items like floors, fixtures, and upholstery, choose neutral colors. Then, use accessories to add strong hues and textures to the space. Colorful accents can take the stage against a neutral backdrop.

Be a kid once more

What were your favorite activities as a child? It doesn’t matter if it was playing pinball, crafting dollhouse furniture, or Lego construction; now that you’re an adult, there’s no reason you can’t start up where you left off. Or perhaps you’ve discovered a brand-new enjoyable activity along the way that merits a little more room.

Take advantage of your fun side by installing a disc golf course in the backyard, a billiard table in the garage, or turntables in the dining room.

Obtain new hardware

It truly is remarkable how new hardware for your door handles, appliances, and faucets can improve the look of your home. Additionally, there is a ton of inexpensive solutions available to you.

Bring Animals Into Your Life

Not everyone should have a pet. They require devotion, care, and responsibility without a doubt, as well as some tolerance for fur-covered surfaces and other cleanup tasks. However, there are also many benefits to pet ownership: When you acquire a pet, you gain a dedicated, obedient friend for life.

They will always be pleased to see you back home. If you’re prepared to bring home a new pet, think about starting by contacting your neighborhood animal shelters. There are lots of great animals out there who are only looking for loving homes.

Make it seem like there are higher ceilings

Many costly homes have eye-catching features like high ceilings. If raising the ceiling height physically is out of your remodeling budget, you can give the impression that the ceiling is higher by using window treatments. To make the space appear larger, hang the curtain rods closer to the ceiling and choose long, flowing curtains.

Use Your Creativity When Decorating

Never be afraid to decorate your garden in the same manner that you would a room in your house. Okay, so you might decide against installing a TV there, but you still need to consider the accessories and possibly a focus point. By doing so, you will create the impression that your yard is a beautiful, carefully constructed extension of your house. And again, you have a lot of creative licenses when you do this. Just remember that anything you have outside must be waterproof or covered in some other way.

Simulate Built-In Look

If you enjoy the look of bookcases that resemble libraries but don’t want to spend a lot of money on a custom design, utilize bookshelves to simulate floor-to-ceiling built-ins. Four tall bookcases were stacked in this living room and fastened to the wall with anchors. Consider putting trim along the top of the shelf units to strengthen the built-in appearance.

Be eccentric

A diner I used to adore had a huge outdoor area, and every nook and cranny was crammed with creative planters constructed from bathtubs, sinks, and even toilets, all overflowing with blooms. Visitors were always amused by the unconventional planting choices, which also served as fantastic discussion starters.

Even if you don’t want to grow flowers in your bathtub, there is something to be said for incorporating something completely out-of-the-ordinary into your house. This could be garden art, a collection of cherished family photos in a shadow box, or an unexpected find that you couldn’t resist bringing in. These intriguing elements spark conversation and give your home a genuine sense of who you are.

Create A Patio

If you have a spacious, well-kept patio, you’ll have a beautiful area of extra space for your house. It might be practical to move your summer cooking outside if your kitchen is small. Additionally, you can use it as your personal hideaway or as a place to work out outside.

Due to its versatility in terms of size and style, patios can add a distinctive design element to the landscaping around your home. Place your patio elsewhere in your yard to make the area “pop,” or close to your house for a “deck-like” look. If your land is large, you might install it further away and build a walkway to reach there for a “hidden” look.

Give Your Passion Projects Some Room

Giving your side project a dedicated location is sure to improve your joy, whether you are writing a book, making an effort to practice the piano more frequently, stitching a quilt, or doing anything else.

Additionally, you’re more likely to use them if the equipment you need to practice or produce is close at hand. There isn’t a spare room? Don’t let a lack of room deter you; even setting up one corner for your creative practice can be sufficient.

Enjoy Outdoor Dining

Any dinner feels more festive when it is eaten outside for some reason. Additionally, it is not necessary to serve grilled oysters and cold wine; simply taking your regular dinner dish outside would suffice. Include a table and chairs so you can eat outside, whether you have a sizable patio or a vast backyard.

Put Plants and Flowers Throughout Your Rooms

Cut flowers in vibrant colors and luxuriant green plants provide a special touch to a setting that can’t help but make us feel happy. Pick up flowers anytime you see a good offer, divide the bouquet into smaller receptacles, and then distribute them around the house. Anything goes when it comes to the floral arrangement as long as it makes you happy, including teapots, repurposed bottles, and jam jars.

Home Improvements To Make Your Home Feel Fresh

Consider a water feature

A beautiful method to stand out from the crowd is to use a fountain. Whether you want a tiny or large water element, make sure the material doesn’t look overcrowded or disorganized. Because it is simple and versatile, natural stone is an excellent material for fountains.

Include an annex

Garden annexes are the ideal alternative for your home addition needs in terms of peace of mind. Homeowners with gardens can now create fully functional outdoor living spaces that can be enjoyed all year round because of the growing popularity of modular garden structures. If you have a garden, you have a fantastic window of opportunity for house remodeling and can add in Renewal by Andersen Picture windows.
