Career Training: A Beneficial Alternative to Traditional University

June 1, 2022 by Pam Maynard

This time of year, seniors in high school are graduating and many will go off to college in the fall. But for some seniors, and even up-and-coming seniors, the choice is not as clear. For many, the traditional route is not as appealing as it was years ago.

For one, the cost of education has risen. Second, a college education does not guarantee the career they want. Third, many students feel undecided because they do not know what degree to study.

One great option that is gaining popularity is career training. Career training is schooling that prepares you for a specific job. They offer training and qualifications to prepare students for real-world jobs. Additionally, they teach important soft skills such as communication and critical thinking. These soft skills make them even more valuable to employers.

Also, training is an opportunity to begin working in high-demand industries. Types of courses and diplomas vary depending on the career training center. Students could prepare for careers in the office, business, tech, and healthcare industries. Educational centers, like Pitman Training, give students the specific job skills they need to begin successful careers.

Let’s take a look at some of the reasons your child should consider career training –

1.     Training for specific skillsets

Nowadays, the traditional university route is not always the most practical. Students will go to college and study two years of general classes before declaring a major. Then, they will study specifically for their major.

Some of their majors might not relate to the career they want. However, think of career training as an apprenticeship for a specific job.

Students also gain a diploma or certificate to verify their skills. These are practical skills that they can use in the real world to get a job. Skills such as Microsoft Office, Sage Accounting program, programming, and IT support.

Learning specific skillsets is important because they support current high-demand jobs. When the students gain qualifications from career training, they will start jobs prepared.

2.     Gain experience that employers want

Today, employers look for experience in employees. The best way for students to begin a career is to gain this experience in career training. This training will give them practical real-world skills. Thus, it gets their foot in the door at jobs sooner.

If they approach an employer with the specific skills for the job, their resume will stand out. Employers will be confident that they will need little help or training to get the job completed.

What’s more, an employee that can get started right away is always favorable for a company. It can be hard for students to get their first job, but career training makes it easier.

3.     Start a career sooner

A bachelor’s degree takes four years for students to earn. Compared to this, they can study career training and earn a diploma in about one year. The reason for this is that career training focuses on the specific skills needed for a job. You can rest assured that there will not be any time wasted on unnecessary topics.

With skills and experience, they will skip right to the step of getting their first job. After that, they can continue to grow their career. They will be able to get their career started when they are in their early twenties. This is a huge benefit to students because they can begin to build their future sooner.

4.     Budget-friendly

Not only can career training be completed in a shorter time period, but it also is more budget-friendly. Career training offers tremendous value to students. They receive complete training at a fraction of the cost of college.

Your child can begin their journey without the burden of student loans and debt. With the cost of college tuition rising, this can be a critical decision for parents and children to make. Career training can even offer payment plans and scholarships.

Thus, they can assist more with students’ budgets. This is a wise investment for the future because they will learn skills that employers are seeking.

5.     Modern learning

Career training is an education option that is embracing the future. The same is true for the digital learning technology used in this education. Students can study career training on the computer with in-center assistance. This way, students can complete their studies wherever and whenever they like.

The education trends are shifting to harmonize with the technology that surrounds us. New learning software, such as i-Ready Learning, is prioritizing repeating and escalating learning. In contrast, memorization and repeating can leave students behind.

Modern learning technology is adapting to focus on different learning paces and individual needs of students.

As students begin to search for the next step after high school, it is important for students to explore every avenue. Career training is a route that has many advantages for students. This training is practical because students learn skills they can use in the real world.

It is beneficial for students to focus their time and resources on learning the specific skills for their desired career. With experience, they will have an advantage and stand out to employers. Also, they can begin building their careers without the burden of debt.

Consider career training as a highly beneficial option for your child’s future.
