Vacations, if you’re someone who loves jet setting away each year, can start to blur together after a while. If you’re always heading away to the same place, it can be hard to have a new experience away from the daily grind!
But before you start packing your bags, know that you can make a change this year. Indeed, if you want to have a new vacation experience, all you need to do is plan ahead and know what you want! Here’s how to ensure your next trip away is one you remember for years to come.
Pick Your Destination Just Right
If you want this to be a truly memorable trip, it can’t be somewhere you’ve gone before. It has to be a new location that you’re genuinely interested in visiting. So think about where you’ve always wanted to go, as this could be the perfect time to finally make those travel plans.
If you still can’t do it, we suggest you read more about possibly interesting destinations, especially in the USA because there are a lot of them!
But if you don’t have an idea on the top of your head already, just closing your eyes and putting a pin in a map can work – it’s an interesting origin story, and it guarantees a truly random element to your plans!
Stay Somewhere Different
One of the best things you can do to make this year’s vacation feel different is to choose your accommodation wisely. The more hotels or hostels you stay in, the richer your experience is going to be, even if you found a comfy spot a few years ago and never wanted to stay anywhere else again!
So depending on where you’re going, look into accommodation that’s on the fringe, or outside of the action. Skip the inner city hotels and look to the countryside and rural areas. For example, booking a room in a rainforest hotel when visiting somewhere like Ecuador will already make the vacation feel like an adventure before you’ve even checked in!
Start Saving Sooner
Coming up with a vacation budget is always a bit difficult. You want some spending money for dinners out and souvenirs to bring home, but you’ve still got a life to return to so you can’t just take 3 or 4 months salary out with you. However, you’ve still got plenty of wiggle room here, as long as you start saving as soon as you get the idea to travel.
Put a pot aside and put a few dollars in it every week until your vacation. Set up a direct savings method on your banking app to make sure money is filtered into the vacation fund regularly. Do either of these things at least 6 months in advance, but in reality, it’s often best to give yourself a whole year to save up. After all, the less you can save per month, the longer the budget is going to take to put together.
A memorable vacation takes time to put together. Give yourself a bigger spending budget and stay somewhere different this year to make some really fun memories!
