Self-care is so important, but it’s something that a lot of people don’t think about until they’re in a bad place. Taking some time for yourself every day can make a huge difference in your mood and your overall happiness. One thing that I found meant the most to me was a self-care kit. It was given to me when I needed it the most.
Self-care is important for everyone, but it’s especially crucial for moms. Taking time for yourself can help you recharge and rejuvenate, making you a better parent overall. Making a self-care kit is a great way to make self-care a priority in your life.
What is a Self-Care Kit?
A self-care kit is basically a care package or box filled with things related to self-care. A self-care kit can be in anything and include anything that helps you or the specific person practice self-care. I love including comfy clothes, snuggly slipper socks, candles, bath bombs, journals and more.
What Should Be In a Self-Care Kit?
This will all depend on you. You only want things that will help you take that precious time for yourself. If anything causes you stress or doesn’t help you take care of yourself, don’t put it in your kit!
A self-care kit is personalized just for you, so everyone will have different items in their kit.
Spa Supplies
The easiest and most common self-care items to find are spa supplies. Usually, painting your nails or putting on body butter is all a busy mom can do for self-care most of the time, so including a few easy spa day items in your self-care package would be perfect! It’s all about make it a “me day.”
Here are a few examples of things you can include:
- Nail polish
- Lotion
- Body scrub
- Lip scrub
- Bath bombs
- Shower steamers
- Body butter
- Makeup
You don’t have to get everything on this list, but choose a few you know you will actually use for yourself or what your friend enjoys.
Book or Movie
Add in your favorite book to read, or include one you’ve wanted to read for a long time. Reading is so therapeutic and relaxing, plus you can go at your own pace and slowly build up to practicing self-care if you struggle with it.
You have to be careful to get an intriguing or funny one with a book or a movie. Or else, you’ll never read or watch it, and that means you aren’t taking that precious time for yourself!
I like to always choose a book and a movie I’ve never seen but always wanted to. That way, I splurge a little on myself, and I naturally will want more self-care time which is never a bad thing.
Journal
Journaling is another way to unwind and get all your thoughts out of your head. Most of the time, that’s what I truly need to do during my alone time. Recently, I have found journaling a great way to release my emotions out on paper. It releases a weight in my heart.
As a mom, we often get so maxed out by everyone else’s emotions, which usually leads to burnout. By journaling and just writing down your thoughts every now and again, you’ll be able to release the build-up and stay a happy mom!
You can choose an empty journal or a guided one. It all depends on what you need. Many like just freewriting all the thoughts that come to their heads. But, others need a question to jump-start their writing. It all depends on the person!
Comfy Clothes
Comfortable clothes are important for self-care. When you feel good in your clothes, it shows in your attitude and how you present yourself to the world. Self-care is important for everyone, and if you can do it while wearing something comfortable, all the better! Here are a few of our favorite comfortable items that will help you relax and rejuvenate.
- Lounge Pants
- Hoodie
- Tank Tops
- Slipper Socks
- Leggings
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses essential oils to improve a person’s mood or health. Essential oils are extracts from plants that have healing properties. Aromatherapy is said to be beneficial for a variety of issues, such as relieving stress, improving sleep quality, and reducing pain. While the benefits of aromatherapy are still being studied, many people find it helpful for their mental and physical health and self-care.
An aromatherapy essential oil diffuser will keep your home smelling fresh without while also adding to the room’s decor. The diffuser offers seven distinct color options and can also function as a cool mist humidifier and a night light in addition to a diffuser.

Why is a Self-Care Kit Important?
Self-care is hard to practice, especially for moms. Having a kit that has everything you’ll need to take time for yourself right in one place will help you do self-care more often.
A self-care kit can also be the perfect gift for someone to show them how much you care about them. What would you include in your self-care kit?
