9 Tips to Renovating Your Bathroom

June 17, 2021 by Pam Maynard

When renovating your bathroom, you can change the tiles, have hardwood flooring, install cabinets, new bathroom features, and a bathtub.

We spend a longer time in the bathroom, and a well-maintained bathroom can change the look of your entire house. That is why you need to renovate your bathroom and give it a fresh look.

Over time, the bathroom may lose its wall color and become dull and gloomy. Renovating it will increase the overall aesthetics of the bathroom and make your alone times more enjoyable.

Here are some wonderful and creative ideas that you can follow to revamp your bathroom without spending too much money.

1. Change the Bathroom Features

Bathroom fixtures include showerheads, toilets, bidets, sinks, Bathroom Faucets, etc. They may lose their color if they are not cleaned regularly, and some may start to malfunction if neglected for a long time.

Rather than repairing, it is better to change them and install newer ones. You can buy newer gadgets according to your liking. Check the design, the color, and the features of these items. Newer models of sinks, toilets, showers are user-friendly, and they do not cost that much.

2. Change the Existing Tiles

Over time, the tiles in your bathroom may lose their glow. They become dirty and grimy. Changing the existing ones will make your bathroom appear new and fresh.

You can keep the original color of the bathroom tiles, or go for different colored tiles. Since this is your bathroom, after all, you do not need to go overboard and buy expensive ones. Cheam ceramic tiles will suffice because there will be extra expenses involved to remove the existing tiles first.

Another option is to use wall shower panels.  These have two advantages over traditional ceramic tiles.  Firstly, they’re more affordable.  Secondly, they’re much easier to clean.  You don’t have to go through the pain of scrubbing grout and you never have to worry about mold.  Just clean them the same way you’d clean regular glass.

3. Use Hardwood for Flooring

A great alternative to tiles is hardwood flooring. They are slightly more expensive, but it is worth it. Hardwoods are very popular these days because they are long-lasting, easy to redecorate and remove. So, if you do not like them, you can change them any time you want without spending a fortune.

Contrast the color of the hardwood with the color of your bathroom wall. This will increase the overall beauty of your bathroom environment.

4. Wallpapers are a Cheap Alternative

Changing all the tiles in your bathroom can be a little expensive. To compensate for this, you can only change the tiles of the floor and use wallpapers on the walls. This will save you some money because wallpapers are cheap and with some care, you can do the work yourself.

Be sure that the color and the design of the wallpaper match the design and the color of your floor tiles. If the wallpapers are completely different from the tiles, your bathroom will look funny and awkward.

5. Use Creative Cabinets

Your Bathroom will obviously have some products like soaps, toothpaste, brushes, and other cleaning items. If you keep all of it beside your bathroom basin, it will look overcrowded.

This will also make moving around the basin hard. Even if you have a glass shelf, you still need to be careful and make sure you do not bump into something and drop it.

But if you had a cabinet, such as a base cabinet or an upper cabinet, you could store these accessories very easily. It will make your bathroom appear more spacious. Everyone loves a spacious bathroom. But make sure that the cabinets are waterproof because you do not want them to rot after a couple of weeks.

6. Add Some Touch of Green

Having small green plants around the bathroom can give you a feeling of relaxation. It is pleasing for the eyes and can increase the beauty of your bathroom.

The plants will also add a touch of freshness to your bathroom. Some common plants that you can keep in the bathroom are spider plants, aloe Vera, and orchids. You can also keep some fragrant plants like Lavender, lemon balm, jasmine, etc. Apart from making your bathroom look fresh, they will make your bathroom smell nice too.

7. Have a Unique Mirror Frame

Many people do not pay much attention to it, but a well-designed mirror frame can be very helpful when you want to renovate your bathroom.

There are many creative ways of installing a frame. You can use stainless steel, ceramic, or porcelain frames, etc. Install the frame by matching it with the other objects in your bathroom. If your bathroom has tiles for floors and walls, it is better to use a porcelain or ceramic frame.

If your bathroom has hardwood flooring, then go for steel frames, because ceramic and porcelain do not go well together.

8. Install a Bathtub

Only do this if you have enough space. There are hundreds of bathtubs out there with various designs, colors, and features.

Pick the one that goes well with the interior of your bathroom. If your bathroom already has a shower, you can replace it with a bathtub instead. Having both a shower and a bathtub would be a waste of space for an average-sized bathroom.

9. Set a Theme for Renovation

This is probably the most expensive renovation idea. Setting a theme means using particular color schemes, or a particular set of materials to redecorate your entire bathroom.

For example, some people can go with a marble-themed bathroom where all items such as the sink, the tub, walls, floor, and cabinets will be made of marble stones. If you wish to go for a black-themed bathroom, use glossy black tiles all over the bathroom, have black-colored sinks, tubs, and so on.

Following a certain thing can be expensive, but the end result will be worth it.

Final Thoughts

Bathrooms are a place where you need to be at peace. The setting of the bathroom must be in a way that refreshes you whenever you enter. Following some creative and well-thought-out ideas can help when renovating your bathroom. If you have prior experience, you can even start renovating yourself or call in professionals.
