You want action? We’re talking serious action here. We’re not talking about rolling a heavy ball down a slick wooden surface or watching a 3-D movie. This is the real deal. The activities below are going to make your heart race and make you feel alive and invigorated. There’s a big difference between existing and living.
If you follow the advice below, you will go from existing to living. Always remember that in the end, you regret what you didn’t do, not what you did.
Whitewater Rafting
The best whitewater rafting in the country can be found in five different states: Colorado, Idaho, California, North Carolina, and West Virginia. Let’s take a look at what each state has to offer so you know how to plan. If you choose Colorado, go to the Arkansas River, where you will find mild to intense rapids, but the real selling point for Colorado is the scenery, such as that when you go Royal Gorge rafting.
Idaho can rival that scenery any day of the week, which might surprise you. Most people don’t know this, but Idaho is home to the deepest gorge and largest protected wildlife area in the country. You will also find many hot springs. The rapids depend on your location, but you can find everything in different sections of the Salmon River.
California is good for half day or day trips. Rapids range between Class II and Class IV. North Carolina is known for its crystal clear water in the Nantahala National Forest. These are all Class II rapids, making it perfect for families. If you want an extreme experience, go to the Gauley River in West Virginia. You will find continuous Class V rapids, but only six weeks out of the year.
Zipline
You can zipline from the top of the Rio in Las Vegas or in a more natural setting like the Rocky Mountains. If it’s the latter, it’s even possible to do a zipline course that’s built into the mountainside, cliff faces, and treetops. Wherever you choose to zipline, be sure to wear closed-toe shoes and avoid wearing loose clothing. Also tie back any long hair.
Helicopter Ride
When you first approach a helicopter, the wind is fierce, the noise is loud, and you feel a surge of energy rush through your entire body. You can sense that you’re about to go on the adventure of a lifetime. You can take a sightseeing helicopter ride above the city, countryside, water, mountain range, valleys, and more. It all depends on your location. In some cases, you can even stop at a winery for lunch.
Jet Boating
Buckle up and hold on because this is going to be one heck of a ride. Jet boats skim across the water at high speeds and are propelled by a jet of water ejected from the back of the boat. Jet boating can be found in many places around the United States, but it’s most popular in New Zealand, where you speed through narrow river gorges and barely dodge rocks while enjoying the scenery.
Some people let things happen, others like to watch things happen. Then there are those few who make things happen. If you want to feel alive, don’t just plan one of these trips, book it! You will never look back on the adventure lifestyle once you do.
