How to Prepare for Graduation

March 12, 2021 by Pam Maynard

Graduating from high school is one of the most exciting things in a teen’s life. You are at the start of a brand new adventure, and the possibilities seem endless. There are a few housekeeping things you need to take care of before you start the next chapter of your life.

Here are some things you should do before you graduate high school.

How to Prepare for Graduation

Spend Time with Friends and Family

One important thing to do before graduation is to spend time with friends and family. You might believe you are too busy to hang out with your siblings, or talk with your friends, but now is the time to make it a priority. You will miss them all when you leave home, and they will miss you too.

Even with technology like zoom and phone calls, connecting with people over long distances is challenging. You might be going to college close to home, but you should still spend time with your loved ones.

College is a completely different animal than high school, and you may not have much free time to see your family. So spend some time watching movies with your brother or sister. Hang out with your friends while you still can. Life changes rapidly once you leave for school, and this could be the last time you see your loved ones for a long while.

How to Prepare for Graduation

Look at Things you Own

In between spending time with different people, you should also start thinking about what to take with you to college after graduation. It’s hard to know what to take with you to college, and packing all your belongings takes time.

Before you graduate, start taking a look at all the things you own. What absolutely has to come with you to school? What can you leave behind? This is also a good opportunity to clean out your room and get rid of things you no longer need.

It can be a hassle to throw things away, but you’ll feel better afterwards. You may even be surprised by how much stuff you just had lying around. Once you’ve organized your room, make a list of what you’ll need to buy after you get to college.

Plates, bowls, utensils, and boxes for under bed storage are just the beginning of a fairly long list of things you’ll need in your apartment. Start making a plan now for getting everything you need to make moving in easier.

Send out Graduation Announcements

Lastly, celebrate your graduation from high school by sending out graduation announcements. Your graduation is a big deal, and you should share the news with everyone.

I like to use Basic Invite for my announcements. They have tons of options for high school senior announcements and custom graduation announcements. Whatever design you are looking for, they have it. All of their cards are completely customizable, so you can find the card that works best for you. Check them out!

Congrats and Good Luck!

Graduating from high school is a huge accomplishment, and I hope you are proud of the work you have done. Remember to take advantage of the time you have now, and enjoy yourself. Send out graduation announcements to everyone you know.

Figure out what you must take to school, and what you can leave behind. And spend plenty of time with your family and friends. You won’t regret it. Congratulations on graduating, and good luck with your future!
