Disclosure Statement for Mom Does Reviews

Empowering books for kids that teach us about life’s struggles.  As many of us adults try to understand our own emotions and navigate 2021 we struggle with the pressing matters brought to light recently. How do we handle talks about racism, feminism, empathy, our own anxieties and emotions?

These books A Kids Book About… take a closer look at what exactly these words mean. If you are in search for meaningful gift giving these books make the perfect gift to give this 2021.

ABOUT A Kids Book about

It all started with A Kids Book About Racism, a book written by co-founder and CEO, Jelani Memory. As a black father with a blended family (four white kids and two brown kids), racism was an inevitable topic of conversation. He thought he’d only print one copy, but it turned out other grownups thought their kids could use an honest kids book on the topic. That one book turned into more by new authors on topics like belonging, feminism, gratitude, cancer, and so many more. Meet A Kids Book About, a new kind of publishing company that makes kids books that matter, because kids are ready.

Meaningful books that leave you with honest conversations on the things that really matter. Books created with straight forward and honest tones bringing forward real life subjects.

Empowering Books For Kids

Yes, this really is a kids book about racism. Inside, you’ll find a clear description of what racism is, how it makes people feel when they experience it, and how to spot it when it happens. This is one conversation that’s never too early to start, and this book was written to be an introduction for kids on the topic.

Feminism as a thing that everyone can embrace, no matter their gender. It tackles ideas around equality, bias, and discrimination because of gender. It also empowers young girls and boys to embrace feminism and show up for others when they’re being treated unfairly.

Emotions? emotions… EMOTIOOOONS!
We all have them, they’re all different, and they’re rarely simple. This book helps kids explore the complexities of their emotions by telling stories, asking questions, and coloring activities made for self-expression. What color do you feel like today?

This is a book about anxiety. Having anxiety doesn’t just mean you feel nervous sometimes or need to calm down. It means having an uncontrollable feeling that gets in the way of what you normally do. This book explores what anxiety is like and what life can look like when you’re able to manage to live with anxiety.

This is a book about empathy. Feelings aren’t always easy, especially when they are other people’s. This book teaches kids (and grownups) how to feel “with” someone, and not just for them.

Who are you? Are you your thoughts? Are you your feelings? Are you your hairstyle? Is that who you are? Or are you something more? This book doesn’t just teach kids how to be present with their thoughts—it helps them learn that mindfulness can lead to understanding WHO they are and WHY that matters.

My Thoughts

These beautiful hardback books not only make great conversation pieces they provide healthy discussions around some of the most pressing and challenging issues in our lives. Perfect for children young and old these books are engaging and honest. As a mom of four children it’s important to me that they become well rounded people. I don’t want to wait until they are grown to understand what it means to be mindful or how to show empathy. I engaged my own life situations into these books and am able to converse with my family on how we can all navigate these issues. If you are looking for the perfect Valentine’s gift for kids these books are perfect. Be sure to start your collection of empowering books for kids and collect all of the A Kids Book about today.
