Are your kids learning about video production, either for school presentations or social media? Mine are always curious about these technology based skills and I want to help and encourage them to keep learning. With so many options available today, how do I know which is right for us? It would need to be a kit with everything we need in one place. And it has to be easy to use, since it will be mostly child led learning. Thankfully, we found just the thing for fun and learning with HamiltonBuhl. Let me tell you about how we’ve been using their Green Screen Production Kit.

HamiltonBuhl Green Screen Production Kit
The kit includes a 9′ by 60″ green screen backdrop, a webcam with a built in microphone, and editing software. This provides you and your children everything needed to learn the basics of green screen production, from filming to editing in post production.
My Thoughts
Whether your kids are learning at home, in the classroom or something in between, chances are they will need to learn about video production. One common set of skills to learn is how to film and edit videos with a backdrop. These are usually made of a solid color. And can be edited out to show a variety of backgrounds in post-production. Think about the weather forecasters on TV! In the studio, they typically stand in front of a blue or green screen, right? And then behind the scenes, that single color is replaced with graphics, animated weather maps, and so much more. This is a technique called chroma keying. Replacing a single color background for another background in the editing process. This is one of the skills introduced for fun and learning with HamiltonBuhl.
Easy to Master New Skills
First the students will learn about making presentation slides. This includes how to format them, add graphics and text, and change the order of the slides in the software called I Can Present. Next, they learn about adding objects such as time stamps, watermarks and logos to their presentation. Then it’s on to writing a script and setting it up on the teleprompter during filming. After that, they learn about video quality, camera settings, and how to set up their filming area for the best results. Finally, it’s time to film, edit, and present their project!
While these skills and techniques are presented on a basic level, I think it’s a wonderful place to start. They suggest starting at age 8 or older and it’s set up for individual students or even an entire classroom. I like that it combines several areas to learn about from presentations, slides, filming and then editing the videos. Then as they get older or show more interest, they can start working on a more advanced level!
Instead of standing in front of the class, or virtually appear on their webcam, this is a great way to stand out. Whether they simply use the green screen to have a background of the jungle, planets, or historical locations, it’s a great visual aid to the rest of the class! Think of all the fun they can have by having a news ticker scrolling at the bottom of their broadcast. Or presenting the daily sports report with fun icons and graphics pre-loaded into the software.
