We recently moved into a new house, and I wanted to make sure the drinking water was safe for my family. After all we drink a lot of water, and we have pets that drink it too. There is nothing worse then drinking water and then finding out it was not safe to drink. With Safe Home test kits, I do not have to guess if my water is good enough to drink, I can know for sure. Even if you didn’t just move, wouldn’t you want to make sure your family’s drinking water is safe?

Safe Home Do It Yourself City Water Test Kit
This test kit helps you screen for 14 contaminants that may be in your city water. It is quick and easy with instructions for each and every test included. For each test you take a new glass of your tap water and follow the instructions of how long to hold the dip stick in the water, as well as if you need to shake it. Then you just match it to the result chart.
My water looked fabulous, until I did the lead test. Of course it had to be lead! To be on the safe side we are using bottled water, but I have the Safe Home Premium test out to find out if my results were accurate. I really like how affordable this kit is, and they give you options as follow ups if your water tests are not good. This kit is easy to use and take with you, which means you could take it on a trip and test water before you drink it!
Safe Home Premium Kit
This test kit tests for 50 different contaminants including 31 different metals. For this kit you collect water with the included vials and instructions. Then you place them in the box, and mail them back to Safe Home. The box is ready to mail with paid postage and address already on it. Then 7-10 business days after they receive the samples, you will get the results emailed to you. I just got my water samples and put them in the box, sealed it up, and popped it into the mailbox.
The Results Are In
I just got my results back and I have a snip it of the email to show you how they look. There are symbols to show the level of the water for each of the 50 contaminants. Green means the level is below the minimum detection level of their instrumentation, yellow means it is above the minimum detection level of instrumentation, but below the EPA standards. It needs to be monitored because it may not be safe for your family. Red means it is above the EPA’s maximum contamination level. If it is red, corrective action needs to be taken.
This was just one page of my results, but I wanted to show that the lead was in the yellow range. Therefore it probably would be ok to drink, but I would rather not drink any lead. The only red mark my water scored was for the pH. It is in the acidic range, and that is not good to continually drink. These results have enabled me to see that we will need to look into a water filtration system to make the water safer for my family. One main worry I had was bacteria. This kit also had a bacteria test with it that I was able to do at the house. I followed the instructions and then had to let the vial sit for 24 hours. If it changed color from its original yellow, bacteria is present. Thankfully there is no bacteria in my water.
If you are on a well, they recommend checking the bacteria level every few months. Safe Home has kits to test just one aspect of the water like the bacteria, or lead. That way you do not have to get a large kit if you need to check one thing more frequently. I am happy to know that Safe Home has these kits to check the water. I trust these tests more than a company who is trying to sell me some astronomically priced water system. Now I know my water needs some attention and I can research the best solution for my family’s needs.
