What Are Hemp Flowers? How Do I Know They’re Right for Me?

September 3, 2020 by Pam Maynard

The global hemp market is expected to grow to $26.6 billion by 2026.

You have probably heard someone talk of hemp flowers, and asked yourself, “What are hemp flowers? A hemp flower is the flower of a cannabis product with less than 0.03% of THC.

The only difference between it and cannabis is that the hemp is rich in CBD while cannabis has more THC. Keep reading to learn more about hemp flowers, and how you should know the right one for you.

What Are Hemp Flowers? How Do I Know They're Right for Me?

Hemp Flowers Explained

Hemp flowers are products of the female cannabis Sativa plant. The flowers are only produced when the cannabis plant matures. They contain high levels of Cannabigerol (CBG) and cannabidiol (CBD), but they do not produce THC.

Health experts believe that hemp flowers contain other phytocannabinoids, which contribute to the appealing scent and potent. These phytocannabinoids are flavonoids and terpenes.

When the hemp flowers reach bloom, they produce buds known as a cola. The buds contain the highest levels of terpenes and cannabinoids, and they resemble marijuana. You can’t differentiate them with a naked eye unless you use the advanced lens.

Hemp flowers are legal in all states.

Health Benefits of Hemp Flowers

In line with scientific research, the components of a hemp flower are more effective when consumed together than when taken individually. Here are the main health benefits associated with the consumption of the CBD hemp flower:

Prevents Cancer

Though unproven, health experts believe that the hemp flower can prevent the formation of cancer tumors.

It inhibits the excessive production of cells, thus, prevents cancer from spreading. It can also alleviate cancer symptoms and adverse chemotherapy symptoms.

Relieves Acne

Health experts believe that the hemp flower prohibits the growth of sebum on the skin. It can also reduce the spread of skin inflammation, thus, ease acne.

Other health benefits of the hemp flower are:

  • May treat diabetes
  • May reduce drug addiction
  • May relative insomnia
  • May promote relaxation and reduce stress
  • May treat blood pressure and various heart diseases

Most of the benefits are still under research. Therefore, you should not use the medication without the doctor’s prescription.

How to Take Hemp Flower

There are multiple ingestion methods for the hemp flower. Here are the top three recommended ways of taking it:

Smoking

Smoking is the most popular ingestion method. Even though hemp flower contains little or no THC, you can still smoke it like a weed, and the other cannabis products.

Smoking delivers the hemp flower to the bloodstream directly. This means that you can feel the effect of the flower immediately after smoking it. However, the results cannot last for more than 60 minutes, unless you puff again.

Vaping

Vaping is an ideal option for users who need immediate hemp flower effects but do not wish to fill their lungs with smoke. Vapor absorbs in the lungs more effectively than smoking and is also gentle on the respiratory system.

However, you should have a complete vaping kit for you to ingest the flower through vaping.

Eating

Eating is an uncommon, yet effective method for ingesting the hemp flower.

Do you eat raw? No, it has a bad taste, and health experts do not recommend raw consumption. You should heat it or cook it with food. The heating should be gentle to avoid destroying the buds.

Don’t expect to get an immediate impact of the flower when you eat it. Like food, this cannabis product must undergo the ingestion process before you feel its impact.

Is Hemp Flower Right for You?

Hemp flower is believed to have many health benefits, but that does not mean that it’s right for you. Just like the other cannabis plant products, you should seek the doctor’s prescription first.

Also, you should understand the possible side effects, and how you will handle them. Here are great tips to consider before using a hemp flower:

Check the THC content

The hemp flower container should indicate THC content, and as mentioned earlier, the THC content should be less than 0.03%.

Refrain from any product which has a higher THC level, or which does not mention the percentage. Anything higher than 0.03% would trigger unwanted psychoactive effects.

Consider the CBD strains

Understand the content, too, along with the THC content. The hemp flower contains many CBD strains that fall under three main categories: Sativa, Indica, and hybrid.

Indica strains bring relaxing effects; thus, you should take them before sleep. Sativa brings a cerebral feeling, making them ideal for the daytime. Hybrid contains both Sativa and Indica. Choose the right strains depending on how you would like to use your hemp flower.

Consider the Quality

High-quality hemp flowers trigger the most effects. Conversely, low-quality flowers have mild or no effect at all.

Most high-grade hemp flowers come with a hefty price tag due to the effects they bring forth. However, you should still consider the best quality regardless of the price, to enjoy maximum benefits.

But how do you differentiate between the best quality hemp flower and the biomass?

  • The premium hemp flower has a stronger smell compared to biomass
  • Premium is handpicked, while biomass is machine trimmed
  • Biomass is leafy, while the premium grade has little or tiny leaves
  • Premium has fine buds, while biomass comes with inconsistent buds

Now that you know how to choose the premium grade quality, you are probably wondering where can I buy hemp? Don’t worry; you can get your best quality hemp flower from a reputable supplier.

The supplier should be well-known, licensed, and certified to sell cannabis products. The right supplier will reduce your worries about getting poor quality hemp flowers.

Understand the Possible Side Effects

You may experience a few side effects after consuming the hemp flower products. The effects may range from mild to severe; depending on how much you consume it.

The common effects include red eyes, dizziness, dry mouth, and vomiting. Inform your healthcare provider immediately if the symptoms persist.

Make an Informed Decision

Hemp flowers have great features and benefits which make them unique among a myriad of cannabis products. You can ingest them in many ways, too, depending on your personal preferences and the desired effects.

For best results, use the premium grade hemp flower from a reputable supplier or farmer.
