When I let my little ones have screen time, I really prefer them to be watching something that is funny as well as educational. They can learn a lot even at the most basic level while watching animated shows. And what a great way to learn about history and the important figures that played a role than by brief episdoes that cover the high points. PBS Kids is helping us learn with Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum.
About Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum
This children’s animated adventure-comedy is for kids 4-7. It was the inspiration of Brad Meltzer and Chris Eliopoulos’s best-selling kids book series, Ordinary People Change the World.
Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum
Xavier, his sister, Yadina, and their friend, Brad, work together to solve a problem they’ve encountered. They use time travel at the Secret Museum, learn about historical figures and their problems, how they worked through it, and bring that experience back to the present. Each episode is broken in 2 halves, and each focuses on a certain figure in history.
My Thoughts
I love watching the kids try to solve a problem together. It’s a great way to watch how their little minds work, as they recognize, evaluate, and try to solve an issue. Yes, it may be minor in the scheme of things, but the skills are invaluable and mature as they get older. So to be able to show them this very technique AND teach them about historical figures as well? Then I’m glad that they are going to learn with Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum.
A duo of siblings, Xavier and Yadina, along with their friend Brad, encounter a problem that they need to figure out. So they head to the Secret Museum, travel back to a period in time, and meet someone famous from history. They learn about their lives and what problems that person faced. Then they take that experience and come back to the present and apply it to their own problem in order to solve it.
And the people they meet range from artists, like Da Vinci, to first ladies such as Eleanor Roosevelt, and even great leaders like Cleopatra and Catherine the Great! The historical figures are from all over the world and span many different time periods. The information is pretty basic, as the show is meant for kids ages 4-7. But it’s fine for younger or older siblings to watch along too and learn about history too!
