If there’s one thing that most parents start to realize once they reach a certain point in their lives is that life moves at a pretty breakneck speed. When you’re young, a year can feel like an entire lifetime but once you’ve got kids of your own, it can pass by in the blink of an eye. Of course, this might just be a fact of life but that doesn’t make it easy to deal with. One of the best things that you can do if you really want to start holding onto those precious memories is to find ways to preserve them. Here are just a few things that you might want to try.
Save things that your kids make
Kids love to make things. Whether they’re sitting down to draw a picture, make a little sculpture, or if they bring something home from school that they’ve been working on. It can sometimes feel like your home is getting seriously full of these kinds of things but if you throw them away then you’ll miss them when they’re gone. These are the kinds of things that you can hold onto and look back at when you want to take yourself back to that particular time of their lives. Not only that but they will likely get a kick out of seeing the kinds of things they made when they were younger.
Have a family photoshoot
There’s nothing like covering the walls in family photos. It’s not only a great way to decorate your home but it’s a fantastic way to preserve little moments in time. The issue for a lot of families is that they don’t have any photos that they are all in since someone has to hold the camera. So why not hire a photographer for a family photoshoot so that you can get some really lovely, high-quality photographs professionally taken. That way you will not only have photographs of all of you together but you can be sure that they’ll always look fantastic.
Growth charts
It might sound like something of a cliche but it’s true that kids really do grow up fast. However, for most parents, this is the kind of change that you can only really notice in retrospect. Since you see them every day, their growth is often gradual enough that you don’t notice. So why not set up a growth chart that gets added to every year or so? You might even want to do it on their birthday. That way both you and they can see how much they’re growing every single time you add an extra notch onto it.
Of course, one thing that you should remember is that you shouldn’t spend all of your time obsessing over the past to the point that you start missing out on things that are happening right now. It might be sad that your kids are growing up, but with every new milestone they hit, there is something new and exciting on the horizon for you to experience alongside them.
